Draco's POV
"Hey, Malfoy!" Crabbe shouted.
"What do you want Crabbe? I replied as I turned away from the hall to look back at him, my stomach rumbling in protest.
"Look there's the mudblood!" Crabbe shouted, with a hint of laughter in his voice. "They really do need to get a new headmaster, Dumbledore lets all the riff-raff in! Don't you think Malfoy?"
"Go away, Crabbe." I said, hurrying on towards the hall now scanning for Hermione Granger, my mind distracted from food. I saw the back of her bushy hair go through the door into the Great Hall. I sped up to catch up with her but stopped abruptly as she was with them (Harry and Ron). Who would most definitely not be pleased to see me.
I turned away towards the Slytherin table and chose a seat all by myself, away from my friends who glanced at me in confusion. I pushed my food around my plate, wondering how to get her all by herself so I could speak to her properly. There was no option I would have to go up to all three of them, ask to speak to her by herself and hope she would say yes. But I wasn't too hopeful that this would happen.
After dinner was finished, I left the hall and sped up slightly to catch up with the three of them, who had left just before I had, and I shouted "Hermione Granger."
She turned around and spotted me, just as Ron and Harry had spun round at my voice. "What do you want?" She said angrily, her face stern. Her displeasure at my attention plainly obvious.
"Um, can I speak to you, by yourself please?" I asked, concerned about what her answer might be, although I was fairly certain what it would be.
"Um." She mimicked nastily. "No way, Malfoy." Her hatred of me was obvious in her tone of voice.
I turned away slightly hurt, but not completely surprised and headed back to the Slytherin common room hanging my head. I would have to find some way to force her to talk to me in private and I would do whatever it would take, if it meant I could find some way to go out with her. I reached the bare stone wall that hid the passage to the Slytherin common room.
"Basilisk." I said absentmindedly. The wall moved away to reveal the cold but grand dungeon in which the Slytherin common room was located. I walked in, said goodnight to Crabbe and Goyle and then went to the boys dormitories and tried to go to sleep without thinking about Hermione.
Hermione's POV
I walked down the stairs to the Great Hall for breakfast, thinking about how hurt Malfoy looked when I said no to him yesterday after dinner. What had happened to him, this was not at all like him? It was completely out of his character, I used to be convinced he didn't even have feelings. I would try and talk to him after breakfast, if he let me that is, he didn't normally let me within a metre radius of him up until yesterday. I mentally decided that when he had finished his breakfast, I would follow him out the hall and talk to him, to find out what he wanted and what on Earth his problem was.
As I ate my breakfast, I kept glancing over at Malfoy to see if I was finished yet and more than once I caught him looking back at me but as soon as he saw that I had spotted him he would look away and blush. There was definitely something up with him, and I had to find out what it was, why on Earth was he blushing whenever I caught him looking at me, also why was he looking at me so much. Suddenly, he stood and said goodbye to his friends and as he started to near the door at the end of the hall, I did the same and walked as fast as I could without running. I exited the hall at the same time as Malfoy and as he was about to turn towards the Slytherin common room, I shouted "Oi, Malfoy. Come with me." I then added as an afterthought "Please." He turned around and followed me as I led the way towards a deserted classroom nearby. When I entered the classroom, Malfoy entered not far behind and as soon as he was in the room too, I closed the door and turned towards him.
I said, "What is up with you? You've been acting really strangely recently. And you actually came with me. Normally you probably would have said 'go away mudblood.' This is not at all how you normally are, how you normally act towards me." I finished and looked at him expectantly waiting for an answer.
He reluctantly replied, "Well, um basically. Well I feel bad for being mean to you for all these years and I want to make it up to you and be friends but I know you won't want to be my friend, after all I've done to you, so it's probably pointless but it's worth a try." He half-smiled and looked up at me but before he had done that, he was pretending there was something very interesting on the floor and wouldn't look up at me.
I gave him a small smile back and I said as nicely as I could, "I would forgive you but I am sorry to tell you, I don't really believe you." Then I added seeing his face distort with sadness "I'm sorry." He soon managed to turn his face back into his usual mask with no emotions showing. As he went to leave he merely nodded at me and then he was out the door and gone. I was so confused I couldn't tell Harry or Ron about him, they would immediately think he's lying, but strangely I did kind of believe him. As I left the empty classroom for my first lesson, I pushed all thoughts about Malfoy to the back of my head. I had more important things to focus on.

Later that evening, I was sitting by the fire in Gryffindor common room with Harry and Ron, as we were all struggling to get through all the homework we had been set. Then Ron said he needed to get something from the dormitory and walked towards the stairs to the boy's dormitories, he subtly beckoned to me to come with him, I quickly said to Harry "I'm just going to go with him-"
He just nodded at me knowingly, he knew what we were up to as it wasn't the first time and let me go. As I climbed up the stairs to the boy's dormitories, I started to think about Malfoy again but when I reached the top of the stairs I put him to the back of my mind again. Harry and Ron wouldn't approve of me thinking about Malfoy so much. When I entered and closed the door behind me, Ron immediately pulled out his wand and said "Colloportus." And immediately I heard the sound of the lock clicking in the place. He pulled me towards him and we started kissing, first slowly then more passionately. As we got more passionate Ron pushed me down onto his bed.

I lay there beside him for I don't know how long, thinking about how strange the past day had been, but then someone started to knock on the door. I realised it was Harry when I heard his voice through the door and he said "Come on you two! It's time for dinner!" Me and Ron both jumped out of bed and quickly got changed again, when we were both ready, I pulled out my wand and said.
"Alohomora!" The door clicked open and we ran down the stairs and saw Harry waiting for us by the Fat Lady ready to leave. We joined him and left the common room together to have dinner. For some strange reason, I was kind of excited to see Malfoy again but I didn't tell Harry and Ron about this thought, as I was sure they wouldn't be very happy. Harry and Ron were Draco's sworn enemies, and I used to think he was my sworn enemy too but I wasn't so sure about that any more.
