Draco's POV
Hermione was just starting to eat a chip as the waitress came over yet again.
"How is your food?" The waitress asked, a smile that was so obviously fake plastered on her face. Hermione could only nod, as she tried to quickly swallow the chip that she was eating.
"It's great." I said, flashing her a quick smile. I could feel and see Hermione watching me in my peripheral vision, she definitely wasn't happy about that. However, the waitress was though as her fake smile grew larger, then she turned on her heel and walked away, her heeled shoes clicking on the wooden floor. I watched her until she was on the other side of the restaurant then turned back to Hermione. She was glaring at me.
"Don't encourage her, she already seems to have fallen in love with you after only 30 minutes being in the same room as you." Hermione said.
"Now, now Hermione. You're not jealous, are you?" I said, with a smirk. Hermione glared at me again, I laughed but that just made her even more angry.
"Well, you are my boyfriend." She said, her voice softened as she regained her composure and calmed down.
"Am I? We never really specified, what we were." I said, watching her face closely. Was this her attempt at asking me to be her boyfriend?
"It was implied," She said. "I didn't realise that I needed to spell it out for you." She smirked at me.
"Are you implying that I'm stupid, Hermione?" I asked, quirking my eyebrows.
"Would I do such a thing?" She asked, with a smile. I laughed, then she started laughing too. Other people in the restaurant started to glance at us but I didn't care and I doubted that Hermione did either. It took us both a while to get our laughter under control, I saw the waitress also staring at us but again I didn't care. "I think we're gathering a bit of attention." She said. I smiled at Hermione before looking back to my lasagne, there was still a little bit left. I scooped it up with my fork and ate it. Hermione had already finished her burger. "Do you want dessert or should we just pay and go?" She asked.
"What do you want to do? And I will pay, it will be my treat." I said, she looked up at me.
"Are you sure? Well I think we should leave. We could probably have more fun elsewhere, where we're not being judged by everyone else. Well we might still be judged but it will be less obvious." She said with a smile.
"Okay, that's fine. But we're going to have to wait until the waitress comes back around." I said, with a smile. "Do you have any idea where you want to go, when we leave here?" I asked.
"Well, I know a park round the corner. I used to go there sometimes as a kid, it's not that great but there's a nice patch of grass." Hermione said. "Or we could just wander and I could show you the shops?"
"Maybe, we can do a bit of both." I said. "Actually let's go to the shops, I'll buy you something to commemorate our first proper date."
"Aw, you're softer than you look, Draco. How did you cope in Slytherin all these years?" She asked, with a smirk.
"I hadn't met you, properly, it's all your fault. You've turned me soft, I used to be a hard man." I said, smiling. She laughed again. "What's funny about that? It's the cold hard truth." Even I started to crack up, then the waitress was back.
"Are you both finished?" She asked, I noticed again that she was smiling her extremely fake smile. But she worked as a waitress, I supposed that was what they had to do to seem enthusiastic.
"Yeah, could we have the bill, please?" I asked, with a small smile.
"Yes, of course." She said, she picked up our plates and walked away. A couple minutes later she reappeared with the card machine. I pulled out my wallet, it was enchanted so all the magical money in the pockets was invisible to the waitress and I had debit cards which took money out of my vault in Gringotts. I pulled out one of them and typed in the code. It was accepted, which I knew it would be. Having a Ministry official for a father, meant I wasn't short of money, so my father was useful in at least one way. He barely went to work anymore but he still got paid. "Thank you, have a nice night." She said before walking away again.
"Are we going to go to the shops now then?" I asked. Hermione nodded, we both stood and walked out onto the street. The sun was still pretty high in the sky, but was getting steadily lower. Hermione took my hand and led me down the street, past cafes, restaurants and charity shops. Then we came across some jewellery shops, something caught my eye in one of the windows. I came to a stop, making Hermione stop too. It was a necklace with a gold chain and the charm was a large sapphire, the birth stone of September. "Your birthday is in September, isn't it?" I asked, she looked at me, shocked.
"No, no. That costs way too much, you can't buy me that." She said, shaking her head.
"Well you see, I want to. You are my girlfriend, this is our first date, it will be the perfect way for you to remember." I said. She still seemed reluctant, but I pulled her in after me. The man at the counter seemed shocked as we entered. "Could I buy the sapphire necklace in the window, please?" I asked the man, he nodded and went out a door at the back of the shop. Then he came back with a black box and placed it on the counter.
"Could you come over here, please?" He asked, I walked over. He offered me the card machine, I paid quickly. "Thank you, here you go." He said, passing me the box.
"Thank you, have a good day." I said, walking out, Hermione behind me. I walked a bit further down the street before stopping, I turned to Hermione and opened the box. I pulled out the necklace, she still seemed reluctant but lifted her hair and turned away from me. I fastened it around her neck and then she turned back. The large sapphire glinted, even though the light was slowly fading as the sun went lower and lower in the sky.
"Draco, it's so beautiful. Thank you." She said. She pulled me into a tight hug, and I hugged her back with a smile.
"It's the least I could do." I said. She pulled away from the hug and placed a quick kiss on my cheek.
