Roller Coaster

I sit down on a roller coaster I've never been on before
I'm scared because who knows if this ride will be a bore
Who knows if this ride will scare me?
Who knows how the ride will be?

I'm sitting on the roller coaster, waiting for it to start
So, I can get off and calm my heart
Why am on the roller coaster to begin with?
Because I want to see if what I hear about it is a myth
I want to know the ups and downs
I want to know why this causes one to turn their smile not into a frown
I want to know why people cheer and are happy, too
I want to know a lot, that's true

The roller coaster starts no matter if I'm ready or not
And I don't feel that hot
We start going up slowly, at first
Then, we stop for a second and suddenly continue in bursts
Before I know it, we're on the loop-de-loop
And people are screaming with joy and I'm mute
How can they scream for joy?
It's like they're young and just received a brand new toy
It's not all its cracked up to be
I thought it'd be more enjoyable, see?

At the end of the ride
I breathe a happy sigh
"We're done
Wasn't that fun?"
"No", I reply
"I felt like I was about to die"

Life is like this ride I just went on
Life isn't full of fun
It's full of loop-de-loops, twist and turns, ups and downs
But we manage it, whether we're smiling or there's frowns
