Masks hide us

Masks are there for cautious reasons
Even during a season
We take care of the masks we use and wear
Never letting in abuse and never letting it tear
Although masks do hide our true nature
They do have some sort of allure
We get to hide behind a smile and mask
Even if it's for a while and sort of a hard task

Although our hearts are tearing inside
We do, behind masks, hide
Not wanting to show our true emotion
Afraid we'll have to, in the end, if we take off our masks, put on some sort of lotion
Because, by revealing our true emotions, we are vulnerable to being stabbed in the heart
And, by doing that, we're afraid that our hearts will slowly be taken apart

So we hide behind masks of a smile
Even if it's for a little while
And, when we're alone, we weep and cry
Because, inside, we don't want to die
