Demi's POV
I stood there, in shock, still unsure of what to say. I had a million things running through my head, causing my brain not to form any type of sentence. I watched as Nick stood there, pissed off. He had a look of disapproval and an unsettling grin on his face.
"Well.. are you going to say anything?" Nick spoke up again, which caused me to frantically move toward him.
"Nick..." I softly spoke up as I went to reach for his arm, but he took a step back from me.
"I am going to ask one last time, are you stealing money from my company?" He asked in a slower, more ruthless tone.
I took a deep breath, and before I could think before speaking, words quickly began to pour out of my mouth, "Yes.. I mean.. No.. I mean.."
"God, Demi, who are you right now?" Nick spit out, which hit me like a dagger in my chest. I felt my eyes beginning to water.
"Nick, please let me explain. I can explain everything!" I said as I caught my breath on a sob, but Nick didn't seem to care.
"Honestly I can't even look at you right now, Demi. I don't really care what you have to say. The fact that you would do this to me, behind my back, says it all. I thought I knew who you were, but the truth is, I never knew you at all. This was all a lie. Something that you cooked up, so that you can get what you really wanted. The sad thing is, I actually fell in love with you Demi. I fell in love with everything about you, but now, I have no idea who you are, and quite frankly I am disgusted." Nick said as he went to turn around and head for the door. My mouth quivered as a tear trickled down my face.
"NICK! Stop! That is not true! You do know who I am! There is something-"
Nick quickly cut in, "NO! That is where you're wrong! I thought I knew you, I thought I knew everything about you, but now, you're a complete stranger to me. I've got to go," he said as he turned back around and continued for the door.
"That's not fair! You-"
"What's not fair? Me calling you a fraud because you stole money from ME?" Nick yelled as he turned around to face me once again.
At this point I was getting irritated. Irritated because Nick wasn't allowing me to speak up. He wasn't giving me a chance to say what I needed to say. Instead, he just wanted to throw everything we ever worked for out the door, and act as if I meant nothing. I wiped my tear away and stood up a little straighter, I took a step toward him and then spoke up, "No! What is not fair is that you want to just keep assuming everything about the situation instead of actually hearing me out! Maybe.. Just maybe I had to do this because of everything that has been going on with those trying to interfere with us, and maybe Just maybe, I did this because I had to protect you! But, you know what? You go ahead and you continue to assume why I did what I did and YOU go ahead and throw everything we ever built between us out the door! I know what I did and why I did it and if you don't want to hear my side of the story or even give me a chance to explain, then, well...that's on you. So..Go! Leave! I don't even care anymore!" I spat out as I turned around to face away from him and continued to silently cry to myself.
I stood there, crying, waiting for the door to slam shut, but instead I heard footsteps come a little closer. "What do you mean protect me?" He asked in a more sincere tone.
"Does it even matter anymore?" I said over my shoulder, still not wanting to turn around to face him.
"Of course it does," he said as he reached out and touched my shoulder. "I'm sorry I haven't listened to what you have to say. Will you tell me now? I won't interrupt you," he said to me. I nodded my head and turned around to face him.
