Ripples
On the water
As my hands
Move through
The cool liquid
I wash him away
Gracefully moving
Inch by inch
Forward
One lap
Two
Three
As each image appears
I wash him away
With each soft tide
The view of the present
Becomes the past
Swooshing sound
Escapes
Breath controlled
Leave me
I want to be
Without pictures
Or memories
Of what once was
But is no more
It does no one
Good to dwell
On extinguished flames
I wash him away
Far away from me
Into the next lane
Into the book of
Yesterday
For tomorrow
Comes and
This is gone
I am a new person
Looking toward
The future
I washed him away
