Chapter 6 - Finally We Go!

Kayne yawned as he made his way to Mia's room. He was used to waking up early for missions but not 3 am early. He was about to barge in like the last time he was there when the door opened abruptly.

"Were you about to come into my room again without knocking?" Mia said with frustration. She gestured to his hand reaching for the door knob. Her new hearing made it easy for her to sense Kayne approaching, or any danger she was about to come across for that matter.

"Yeah, what's the big deal?" He said before walking past her into the room. He sat on her bed unbothered. The bed had a mess of clothes all over it, her weapon's belt hanging off the bed frame post ready to go. Kayne was surprised there was even room for him to sit. She looked at Kayne embarrassed when he noticed him staring at the clothes pile.

He shrugged in response. It was fun for him to make her frustrated, he couldn't wait until she would realize her backpack couldn't go with her on this journey. "Anyway, to the point. We have to get going if we are going to make it out of here without being caught. It's now or never, Mia."

If Sam found out he was helping Mia sneak out of Hearus without his permission Sam would kill him. Literally. Maybe not literally, but Kayne would get a good betting for sure. That was partially why he decided to go with Mia on her journey to find her parents, so he wouldn't have to deal with the consequences of letting her leave. That, and he had a strong urge to protect her.

"How are we supposed to sneak out of here if I heard you from down the hall? This super hearing thing does come in handy but last night it made it hard to sleep. All I could hear were people down the hall getting their freak on..." She laughed and he couldn't help but laugh along with her. "Well, I'm almost done packing." She gestured to her mess of a bed.

"Remember to pack light. We have a long journey ahead of us and we don't need extra weight holding us back. Meet me in the training room in an hour. I have a plan for getting out of here without Sam knowing." Kayne snickered to himself before looking both ways at the door frame and exiting.

Mia snuck down the hallway sticking to the shadows, her backpack secure on her back. She was going to go straight to the training room where Kayne told her to meet him but Mia had decided to go to the kitchen first. She was starving, like her body couldn't get enough food. Mia went straight for the pantry to grab a bunch of energy bars when she heard a chair move behind her. Mia turned to find Zara staring up at her, her dark blue eyes burning into Mia's. Mia couldn't help but look away. How did she not sense her approach?

"Whatcha doin'?" Zara said innocently.

"Oh nothing, just getting an early morning snack," Mia bluffed trying to convince Zara that her intentions were true.

"Whatever you say." Zara's blonde curls bounced as she walked away. Phew, that was close. Mia stuffed what little space she had left in her backpack with energy bars before she swiftly made her way to the training room.

"Where have you been? It's five minutes past four!" Kayne whispered angrily at Mia.

"Yeah. I ran into some trouble but got out of it," Mia angrily whispered back to him. Men, she thought.

They hear a creek in the floorboard and instantly freeze. Well, at least Mia did. Kayne grabbed Mia's arm and yanked her behind the wardrobe that led to the weapons room. After a few moments, he relaxed a bit and let go of the grip on her arm.

"I think we are okay," Kayne said. He was mistaken.

Zara came around the corner of the wardrobe, scaring the living shit out of Kayne and Mia. How did she keep sneaking up on them so easily? Zara had on a completely different outfit than what she was wearing five minutes earlier when Mia ran into her in the kitchen. She's dressed in all black except for the ninja pouch on her left leg which was white. She had dual swords on her back shaped like an X, secured in their holsters. Her blonde curls were pulled back into a ponytail, except for a few strands; they created a perfect ringlet that framed the left side of her face. "Whatever or wherever you guys are going, I'm going with you."
