Faith's POV
I walked into the kitchen, and started to make the eggs and bacon. 'I can't believe I did that. So embarrassing.' I shook my head to rid myself of guilt. 'He needs humor every once in awhile. I'd be glum if I lived down here even for a few months!'
Fifteen minutes passed by, and I set two plates on the small round table. I set out two glasses of milk and silverware as well. I wiped my hands off on my yoga pants.
Walking out to the living room, where I last saw Erik, I pushed open the door.
"Erik, are you here?" I called out.
No response.
"Erik!" I exclaimed again.
Nothing.
"Erik this isn't funny, come out now." I said getting agitated.
I walked into the room some more. A glimmer of white caught my eye, on the desk top. It was a note.
I picked it up and began to read his child-like cursive.
Faith,
There has been a mixup on the cast list for the new opera. I shall return in a half hour, after I finish haunting my Opera House.
I sincerely apologize for not being able to attend our breakfast. You are able to leave it out for me for later use, if you wish.
I again apologize, and hope to make it up to you soon.
Sincerely,
Erik Destler
Anger and sorrow filled me. I wanted to eat with him. And to leave without telling me, and only a note, bothered me a lot. I sighed and walked out back to the kitchen with the note.
I threw the note into the trash, and sat down to eat my breakfast. As I ate the eggs, I looked across the table to a cold plate and no Erik. I rolled my eyes at the empty chair, and finished eating.
I cleaned my dishes, and went into the library to read for a little while. My fingers scanned the many books on the shelf. The titles indented slightly on my finger tips. One book stood out, "Les Miserables" I smiled at the book, remembering the wonderful production. I picked it up, and sat down in a comfy chair.
My mind flew into the book, and I forgot my surroundings. After what seemed like eternity, I drifted to sleep accidentally. The book slipped from my hands. And the world went into a calm black abyss.
Erik's POV
I felt extremely guilty leaving so suddenly, but I had to get away from my thoughts. I wrote a letter, which I lied in. I wasn't going to fix a problem, I was going to see my angel.
My feet didn't make a sound when I walked through the catacombs.
My cape swooshed around me, billowing at my ankles. And my fedora was over my eyes slightly, to cast a mysterious aura.
When I finally came to the little cathedral of the Opera House, I saw my angel waiting, as she sat by a candle that was lit.
"Christine." I whispered, making my voice throw itself behind her.
She jumped, frightened. "A-angel? Is that you!?" Her little voice trembled.
Christine's brown curls went down to her tiny waist. Her brown eyes were round as francs, and her lips were a rosy red. The skin of her four foot tall body was a creamy porcelain white. Such a beauty for an eight year old.
"Don't be afraid my muse, it is only I." I said. "I am sorry for not being able to attend so often. Even angels are busy."
Christine giggled, like little tinkling bells. "Oh you are forgiven Angel! Do not fret."
I smiled discretely, "Very well. Now, shall we begin?"
Christine nodded, got into the stance, and started her warm ups. Her angelic voice soaring through the room, covering my very heart like a warm blanket.
After an hour, I interrupted her. Knowing Faith would get suspicious.
"Christine, my muse." I gently spoke. "I regret halting our session, but I must take my leave. I am needed from the Heavens."
Christine smiled tiredly. "Ok Angel, thank you for the session. I bid you farewell."
"Goodbye Christine." I said. And took my leave.
I briskly made my way through the catacombs again. I was late and I knew it. 'How am I going to explain myself?'
I jumped into the boat, and rowed to the other side. I jumped back out, gracefully. Unlike what Faith did last time. I chortled at the thought.
I threw my hat and cape onto the rod. And searched the lair for Faith.
I soon found her in the library.
"Faith I am sorry for being so late, I-" I stopped talking when I noticed her sleeping.
Her dark eyelashes were covering her blue eyes. Her lips were parted in her peaceful slumber. Her legs were swung over the side of the chair. The book she was reading was on the ground.
I smiled lightly, and picked her up gently. Her arms automatically went around my neck, and her face nuzzled itself there as well. She sighed happily in her sleep. And snuggled herself into my arms, getting comfy. I stopped for a moment, enjoying the feeling of someone not flinching away from me in disgust. Faith was the only one that wouldn't flinch or tremble when I got near her. I was grateful. So very grateful.
I walked to her bedroom,
to the swan bed, and gently placed her down again. She cuddled the pillow next to her, and smiled. I smirked at her child-ness. Then walked to the door. And quietly closed it behind me.
I strode to the kitchen, famished for once. Faith had gotten me eating regularly, and I have a feeling I will be filling out quite a bit in the next few weeks.
I spotted the cold eggs and bacon, and set the plate over the stove, to warm it up some.
I took it off soon after and sat down at the table. I dug into the food, savoring the deliciousness.
I could get used to this. It's a start of something new. Something I've never known before.
Being loved.
