13. A Phantom New Year

SO SORRY!!!! My internet has been off and on for a week!!! AHHH! So here's a very late New Years Special!!

Faith's POV

"Ayesha! Off the counter!" I shooed her away from my appetizers I was making.

"You blasted cat, you are getting to be like Erik more and more everyday!" I mumbled as she trotted, with her head held high, out of the kitchen door.

I rolled my eyes, and went back to finishing the finger sandwiches. I set them on the tray that held crackers, chips, chicken wings and cheese. A random mish mosh, but it will do. I grabbed the tray and walked out of the kitchen, and set it down onto the living room table. I brushed off my hands, and went to the tv I set up. I figured out that if I connected the portable tv I had to the time machine, it would get present day signal! But for only twelve hours then it'd shut down and I'd have to wait a few days. So I will only use it for special occasions.

I turned it on to the New York new year special, and put it on mute for now, it was only 8:00 p.m.

Stepping back, I admired my work. Little kazoos that I brought from home sat next to the tray, and sodas and water on the other side. I looked up to find Erik staring at me, with a impressed smirk on his face. Ayesha was in his arms.

"I am surprised at what you put together Faith." His deep baritone voice slithered towards me, calm and collected. I smiled, thankful for his praise.

"Thank you, Erik! Where have you been today? I couldn't find you." I said while walking towards him.

"I was merely checking on Christine and the Opera House." He waved a hand in the air, and set it back under Ayesha, so she wouldn't slip out of his arms. She purred and snuggled into his chest.

I pointed towards her, "Seems like she's gotten quite attached to you. She is acting more like you every day. I caught her trying to steal some sandwiches, like you tried to with the cake last week." I folded my arms in front of me.

"Yes." He cleared his throat awkwardly. "Well, I'm trying to get better at that." He shifted to one side.

"Oh, you mean to get better at sneaking food while I'm not looking so you won't get a wooden spoon to the knuckles?" I said, a smirk playing at my lips.

He blushed, and looked down at his polished shoes, cringing lightly at the memory of me doing that, while brushing his knuckles with his hand Ayesha was balance on. "No, I mean to stop eating your delicious food before it is scheduled to be eaten. But how can I not? It's to good!"

I laughed and put a hand under his chin, to make his golden orbs look at me. "Thank you. But I don't mind that you do once in a while Erik, but everyday is a little repetitive don't you think? And I'm starting to figure out your next move when you stalk into the kitchen."

He smiled sheepishly. "Ok."

"Come." I said, putting a arm around his shoulders, and guiding him and Ayesha to the couch. "I want to introduce you to 21st century television. Now. I know it says 2016 on there, but we will say it will be 1852, since it is turning to 1852, here."

He nodded, while sitting down and Ayesha jumping from his hands. His eyes widened at the tv. "Wow. Impossible. It's a moving photograph! And it's colored!!?" He gasped and looked towards me. "It's like your hand sized squared thingy that has a Police Public Call Box on the back of it! Only bigger!"

I laughed at his description. "It's an iPhone. And that was a phone case, with a TARDIS cover." I said. While watching the screen, which I did end up unmuting.

He nodded again. "And I thought the bicycle was fascinating." He breathed while his eyes danced all around the screen.

We sat, ate, as talked for the next three hours.

"FAITH!! TEN MORE SECONDS!!! C'MON!!!" He jumped up and down in front of the screen. I drifted off by eleven, and was jolted awake by his boyish behavior. I groggily smiled and jumped up with him.

"10! 9! 8! 7! 6! 5! 4! 3! 2! 1!!! HAPPY NEW YEARRR!!!!" We screamed, while blowing into our kazoos. We laughed and hugged each other. Ayesha ran into the library, startled by our outburst. I could feel his happiness radiating off him and his smile was huge. 

I looked to the screen, the couples were kissing in 2016, I awkwardly shifted and gulped. And looked up at Erik, who was looking at the screen to. His smile now gone. He looked down at me, silently staring.

He started to lean in, and I was getting nervous, but I leaned in as well. His mask was just about to brush my cheek, when Erik's alarm went off for an intruder. We were startled and jumped back from each other.

We coughed awkwardly and blushing madly.

"W-well. If better go see what that is..." He stuttered, after a long pause.

I nodded, "Yeah you should."

He gave a ghost of a smile, and walked off. I watched him round the corner and saw him slightly hit his hand to his head, as if he was scolding himself.

I smiled sadly, wishing the intruder didn't come at the time they did. I picked up the tray, and walked to the kitchen. "Happy 1852 Faith. You made it." I said to myself, still amazed that I'm in the 19th century.

Who knew what this new year would bring?
