thank u v much

I walked briskly along the corridor, occasionally saying hello and good morning to the waking patients. Most of them grinned knowingly at me, but whether that grin was from genuine happiness or insanity was beyond me. I shook that thought away and focused on my clipboard. My knuckles were blanched white.

I came to a stop at cell number 357. Apprehensively, I peeked inside. A teenager was slumped on a white bed with a sheet carelessly drawn around her. She seemed to be fidgeting with her hair, twisting and pulling at her blonde bob.

poor girl

Taking a small breath, I rapped my knuckles on the glass. Suzuki stopped. She looked over and momentarily scanned me, intrigued as to why I was here. But then she quickly caught sight of the clipboard and scowled, looking away. She wasn't too agitated, judging by her Hue, which would come in handy when treating her. However, her voice dropped with venom.

"What do you want?"

"To talk."

"I don't want to talk." She grit her teeth, letting the tears that pooled round her eyes speak for themselves. I cautiously perched on the bed, sliding the clipboard on the floor. Her cheekbones were very prominent, and her freckles seemed only to make her look younger. The weight loss she had experienced in her cell was unreal. Was she even eating here?

well, you heard her! we should probably just leave right now before you get worked-

"Let's just talk like friends- yeah?" I asked tentatively.

"Friends?" She turned to me in disbelief. "I don't have friends. They all left me."

"Well I won't leave you."

A silence ensued, before I introduced myself. She paused for a second, then she spoke.

"Suzuki." She managed a thin-lipped smile.

"Why were you crying?" My features softened, placing a hand on her shoulder. She was cold. Her body immediately tensed and pulled away.

"That's okay, you don't have to tell me."

Silence.

"Do you dance?"

Yet again, silence.

"You won several underground competitions, didn't you?"

Although the new bit of information seemed to spark a response out of her, it took a while for her to respond.

"Yeah, but then the stupid Sibyl system messed that up!" She gruffly whispered.

"How?"

"Every time I dance, it's not authorised! My stupid Crime Coefficient goes up and my Hue just gets cloudier! Now I'm stuck in here, while my uncle's in hospital!"

Now look what you did, your Crime Coefficient's probably going up by the second.

I stood up to attempt to leave, but she almost immediately pushed me back off the bed and onto the floor with a painful thud.

"I'm sorry for what you've been-"

"What would you know?! YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING! YOU HAVEN'T GONE THROUGH ANYTHING I HAVE!"

She, who had the eyes of fire and hell, raised one of her fists and brought it down. Heat and pain blossomed across my chest.

I could snap you if you want, then you could rip her little foot-

Enough. I'm fine.

"Hue has gone from light green to a dark blue, safety protocol activated." An intercom announced, and the air was thick with anticipation for the safety protocol. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see something pink trickle out and pool on the floor.

"Funny story, because I have."
