I cursed under my breath, keeping my gaze fixed on the screen. He was ill yesterday, so it was much quieter yesterday.
He threw a paper ball at my head. Then another, and another, and another until I whipped around angrily.
"Do you have work to do?" I hissed. I was writing a report on Hues, subtly adding in my own quotes. I had been through most of the stuff the department asked me to write on, so it made sense they would ask me to do the report. My fingers steadily tapped the keys, eyes flicking between the screen and keyboard.
"Nope!" He popped the 'p'. "The hospital gave me a day off~"
"Well if you've got a day off then why are you even here..?" I tutted.
"Don't stress her out." Mels didn't move from her experiment. Her tone of voice paused Jake for a few seconds, while he watched her work. None of the drugs were pleasant, but they all had to be tested, with either a few chemicals or a few human subjects.
"I'm so sorry your highness!" Jake spun quicker. "But Zara literally just got here, and she's so fun!"
I tutted under my breath. Does this guy think I'm sweet and innocent like everyone else? Well, he was quite new too, and the only people here who had seen me snap were Mels and Kyle. And even they had only seen a brief moment before I dealt with it.
Everything aside, they all knew I had... problems.
Suddenly, he stood up and grabbed my cheeks. I tried to pull away but damn his hands were strong.
"Aww, you're so cute~!" Jake cooed.
I could murder you in your sleep.
"I just want to hug you~!"
Hug me and I will slit your throat.
"Your cheeks are so soft~!"
I'll rip your cheeks to shreds, how about that?
Please stop.
"Oh well, I actually do have some work to do, can someone accompany me to the photocopier?" He asked. The room was silent.
"Zara."
"Yes?"
"You're coming, right?"
I looked up, saw that he wasn't going away, and followed him to the photocopier. Watching him photocopy a few patients' reports, I heard a beep from my watch.
"The time is 2:00 pm. Please take your tablet."
"Watch again huh?" Jake brought me back to the present. I nodded, and brought out a tub of tablets from my NEW lab coat. Carefully I unscrewed the lid and shook out three, under Jakes scrutinising stare. I plopped them in my mouth.
"You know Zara, normal people should only have half a tablet. Are you sure that's what the doctor said to have?"
"That's what the doctor said to have."
Always taking the extra precautions, taking too much just to make sure I didn't go over the edge.
We walked back in silence until we reached the staff room. Mels and Kyle were where they were as always, tapping on their computers.
"Guys, it's the end of my shift but I can do the night shift." I breathed, gripping the side of the table as the tablets became effective. The overwhelming feeling of serenity forced its way into my conscious thought.
"Really Zara? That would be a big help! Sorry for dumping it on you!" Kyle clicked his tongue, tucking some papers in a file.
"No." Mels tutted. "You do this shift, Kyle."
"She offered."
"Well, give her a break! She's a patient."
"She offered!"
"And I'm saying give her a break!"
They threw words at each other for a few minutes, taking to commenting on my physical appearance and their psychological evaluations throughout the day.
I knew it was only a matter of time, but I was still surprise when my watch decided to speak.
"Your hue has changed from a light pink to a turquoise, your Iosine tablets will now be supplied."
The watch opened a small hole through which a black tablet appeared, and all three of my co-workers peeked over my shoulders.
"Zara.. what's that?"
