"No way, Steve. You did not jump out of a freaking plane without a parachute," you shook your head in disbelief.
"I'm telling you, I did. Wasn't one of my smartest moves, but I'm told that it looked cool," Steve responded with a shrug. You two rounded the corner into the main living space, finding Loki and Thor sitting on one of the sofas while Clint and Natasha were playing Mario Kart.
"Wait, Nat, you were on that mission. Did he really jump out of a plane without a parachute?" You asked, looking over at the redhead.
"Yup, I've already told him off for it," Natasha said as she pushed some buttons on the controller.
"Did you just fucking blue shell me? What the fuck, Nat!" Clint yelled as he got hit out of first place.
"What're you guys doing here, aren't there like godly things you guys need to do in Asgard?" You asked, diverting your attention to the two men sitting on the sofa. You did like their company, especially Loki's, but it was rare to see them in the tower as of late.
"For once the nine realms aren't attempting to destroy each other, so we decided to spend some time here," Loki said, sounding bored as he turned the page of his book. Well, to be more specific, your book.
"Really, Lokes? You had to steal my copy of (your favorite book)?" You asked, about to go snatch it from him.
"You're always reading it, so I figured I might as well give it a try," Loki responded.
"Just don't ruin it if you don't like the ending," you said before going to sit next to Steve. You stretched out, laying your legs across his lap as you watched the round of Mario Kart going on. Out of the corner of your eye, you could see Loki's grip on your book tightening.
"Hey, (y/n)," Clint started as the race ended.
"What's up, Clint?" You responded, looking up from your phone.
"Do you think you could make some cookies?"
"He needs comfort food after losing that badly," Natasha said with a smirk.
"Shut up, Natasha! I just want some freaking cookies is that too much to ask," Clint said with a slight whine in his voice.
"Sounds like someone's a sore loser," Nat taunted.
"I'll go make the cookies, who wants to come with?" You asked, getting up and leaving to go to the kitchen. You could hear Steve saying something about wanting to help before he got cut off. Next thing you knew, Loki came into the kitchen.
"Hey Loki, you're helping?" You asked as you got out the ingredients.
"Why do you say that like its a bad thing?" Loki asked, an eyebrow raised.
"It's not, it's just that normally Steve helps me with baking and stuff," you responded, met by Loki huffing. "What?"
"Nothing, let's just get this over with," Loki said.
"No, you don't get to do that," you responded. "You came into my kitchen and now you're acting all huffy, what's up?"
"Technically, it's not your kitchen, it's Tony's," Loki began before you glared at him. "Fine, you want to know my problem? You're always 'Steve this' or 'Steve that' and quite honestly I'm fucking sick of hearing about Steve!" Loki snapped.
"What the hell, Loki?! Steve is my best friend. I like you, you idiot!" You yelled back, not thinking about what you were saying. You paused, face flushing red as what you just said sunk in.
"What?" Loki asked, looking shocked.
"Just, get out," you whispered, "I didn't mean to say that. Just, send Steve in so he can help me with the baking."
"Listen (y/n)... Do you want to know the real reason I was acting in that manner?" Loki asked, his voice matching your volume.
"Loki, just don't," you replied.
"Damn it, just listen!" Loki said, raising his voice again. "It's because I thought that you and Steve were together, you dim mortal."
"First, rude. Second, what? Are you screwing with me?" You asked in disbelief.
"I like you, I thought that you and Steve were a couple so I became a jealous bastard. I couldn't stand to think of you and him in that way, with the way that the two of you are so close. Seeing it that close to me without being able to do anything to change your mind," he said, his voice dropping down to a whisper again as he reached a hand up to caress you cheek.
"You doof, Steve's like my brother. And here I was, thinking that this was unrequited," you laughed a bit.
"May I?" Loki asked, his gaze flicking down to your lips. You nodded and he captured your lips in a slow and gentle kiss.
"Hey, (y/n), are the cookies- GUYS IT HAPPENED!" Clint exclaimed as he walked into the kitchen.
"Seriously, Barton?" You asked as you pulled away. The other Avengers rushed into the kitchen, drawn in by Clint's yell.
"It's about time," Steve said with a smile as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"Steve, I'm sorry for the way I behaved earlier," Loki apologized.
"No harm done. But, what's the line? You break her heart, I break you?" Steve asked with a slight laugh.
"Point taken," Loki laughed. You could tell that Clint wasn't going to get his cookies anytime soon.
