So, just to be evil, I'm not going to post the second part of Ordinary until Monday. ('I thought it was because you couldn't figure out how you wanted to write it.' Shut up brain.) By the way, I really love this song it's freaking amazing. Dialogue from the beginning is taken from the beginning of the music video.

Loki took a deep breath, tying the black tie that he was told is customary to wear for a wedding. He heard his friends and brother teasing him in the background as they got ready as well. "Have you seen her today?" Steve asked, drawing Loki out of his thoughts.

"No, I haven't," Loki replied shortly. His nerves were beginning to overtake him, not that he'd let them see.

"It's gonna be an intense moment, when she's walking down the aisle," Tony spoke up. "You good? Are you going to vomit?"

"Yeah, I'm good," Loki replied.

"Look at him, over there fumbling with his tie," Clint jumped in on the teasing.

"I actually think that I'm executing this perfectly. Is this going to happen all day? You guys-"

"Yeah, it's going to happen all day! It's a big day!" Tony cut him off.

"I'm so lucky to have such a supportive group of friends," Loki said with a roll of his eyes. An hour later he found himself in the church, standing and waiting for you to come down the aisle. When the wedding march began playing, you coming down the aisle in the beautiful white gown, your (h/c) hair done in a classic up do, Loki felt the air just escape from his lungs. And then, the crowd was told to take their seats, and Loki was forced to watch you get married to another man.

Yeah. Man, this is the softest thing I ever did.
But... it's about something pretty important to me...

And that's you
And that's true
I really wish I didn't care about you anymore,
But I do
What do I do when the rap-life
Make a motherfucker choose up in that fight?
Make a young couple do something sad like,
Being broke up even though we had life.

It was after another mission. You were just a civilian, no special powers or skills, dating one of the Avengers. It was taking its toll on you both, constant arguing about Loki's safety and such. You had talked about settling down and perhaps having kids together, but Loki couldn't see himself retiring from the Avengers. Loki didn't remember much from that fight, just a lot of yelling from the both of you, your tears, his tears refusing to fall from his eyes, and then the part that always comes back to him in brutal clarity. "If you can't handle it then maybe you should just go!" Loki had yelled at you, slamming his fist against the counter.

"Yeah, maybe I should! Don't bother calling," you yelled back, grabbing your jacket as tears streamed down your face. Before it could fully register what had happened, you had gone with a slam of the door, and Loki was left having told the love of his life to just leave.

It's the hardest rule to follow (I'm thinking of you)
I really wish that I could call you (What can I do?)
You can find another me tomorrow,
and that's the hardest pill to swallow, babe.

If I woke up and I called it quits ('cause I'm thinking of you)
If today I gave up all of this (I don't know what to do)
Maybe I could get you back tomorrow
And that's the hardest pill to swallow, baby.

You had been gone for nearly three years, with little to no contact with Loki. It was driving him insane, knowing that you still talked to Steve and Clint and the rest of the Avengers, but rarely talked to him, save for the occasional greeting when you passed by each other in the tower. Every time that it happened, he was forced to think about what could've been. If he had just been willing to give this up, he would still have you in his life. You would probably have been his wife by now, but he had been a stubborn asshole and paid the price for it.

It wasn't until a few months ago that he had seen the ring on your finger. He didn't want to ask about it, knowing that the answer would be too much for him to handle. A week after he had seen it, Natasha sat him down to talk.

"You probably already know this, but (y/n) is engaged," she told him gently.

"I'm aware. Do I know the man?" Loki asked, praying that he didn't. The universe decided to be kind to him.

"No, he's an accountant. Definitely a change of pace from what we do," Natasha replied. "She didn't want to do this in person, but you're invited to the wedding." With that, she handed him a cream envelope with a small (f/c) bow on the front corner of it. He smiled at the little touch, reminding him of how you had the color in small places all around your apartment.

"Thank you. Tell her that I'm happy for her," he forced himself to say. Natasha nodded, leaving him to just sit there and think.

But don't be pissed off if I hate your husband,
'cause even when I can't say "Love you"
I love you

It's the hardest rule to follow (I'm thinking of you)
I really wish that I could call you (What can I do?)
You can find another me tomorrow,
and that's the hardest pill to swallow, babe.

If I woke up and I called it quits ('cause I'm thinking of you)
If today I gave up all of this (I don't know what to do)
Maybe I could get you back tomorrow
And that's the hardest pill to swallow, baby.

He left the reception early, after watching you and your husband cut the cake and have your first dance. It was too much for him, having to watch another man do for you what he should've done. Loki hated your husband, despite having never even met him, just for the sole reason that he was now the one to hold you, kiss you, tell you that he loved you and have you say it back. Loki didn't know what to do, but he knew that he still loved you.

"Hey, Loki!" He heard your best friend call out. He turned and saw them wearing a (f/c) (dress/tie), meaning that they were in the wedding party. Of course they were, being your best friend and all.

"Hey, (y/b/f/n)," Loki said, forcing a smile onto his face.

"I didn't expect you to actually show up. She told me that she invited you but I figured," they trailed off, letting the implications hang heavy in the air.

"Yeah, I didn't expect to show up either, if I'm being honest," Loki replied, rubbing the back of his neck.

"She missed you, you know. She wanted to call and make things right but she just couldn't pick up the phone. I shouldn't be saying this, but you guys were good for each other," (y/b/f/n) admitted. They were about to say something else but one of the other members of the party had called for them. "I've gotta go, but it was nice seeing you. I'll tell her you showed up, it'll mean a lot to her."

"Thank you," Loki said softly as they were walking away. Hearing about how it tore you up just as bad as it did for him didn't help to make him feel better. As he got in his car, he was beating himself up over how if he had just made the fucking phone call he would still have you. Hitting the steering wheel, he knew that it was no good. The only thing he could do now was try to get over you.
