You knew it was happening. Brock Rumlow was going to ask you to the Homecoming dance, despite the fact that you've never spoken to him more than once. And during that time he had asked you out, even though you barely knew him. You were bracing yourself for it, ready at any moment to say what you needed to. 'Sorry, Brock, but I'm not really looking for anything right now.' And if it came to it, your friend Peggy had agreed to pretend to be your girlfriend after you called in a friend favor. You were listening to music, waiting for choir to begin, when it happened. Someone tapped you on the shoulder, and you saw that it was a girl in your section, Sharon. She held up her Chromebook, something written on a Google Doc that you couldn't quite see but could definitely see the red squiggle of a spelling error. Some music was playing in the background, you couldn't quite place what it was but it sounded terribly cheesy. After letting out a small 'crap' that only you could hear, you took out one earbud. Brock walked up, his hands held out to you. "(Y/n), will you be my date to Homecoming?"
You were caught off guard, despite the practice that you had been running through your mind all week since finding out. "Uhm..."
"Sorry, mate, she can't," someone else said, sitting in the empty seat next to you.
"And why not?" Brock asked, getting slightly pissed at whoever this intruder was. You looked out of the corner of your eye and saw that it was Loki, another member of your class. 'Of course he is, it's after the minute bell, you dimrod,' you told yourself off.
"Well, it's because she's going with me. We didn't want to make a big deal about it, but now it seems like we have to," Loki said, putting an arm around your shoulders. You had spoken to Loki a few times and he seemed like a really nice guy. Obviously he was trying to get you out of this awkward situation, which you realized with a blush on your cheeks and a shy look to the ground.
"And you expect me to actually fall for that?" Brock asked, looking over to you. "(Y/n), is this joker actually being serious?"
"Uhm, yeah, actually," you said, still blushing heavily. "I really didn't want to make it more than it had to be." Sharon let out a small 'aww' as she slowly closed the Chromebook, looking down as if she was the one who had just been rejected. Brock looked slightly pissed, trying to hide whatever he was feeling but failing. He and Sharon went to the opposite side of the classroom, repeating what had just happened to you, but to Natasha instead. Natasha looked up from her phone when she realized what was happening and promptly shook her head no before going to sit with Clint. "Wow, you've gotta be kidding me," you mumbled as you watched it all go down.
"I knew he was a dick, but I didn't think he was that much of one," Loki said, watching as well. By now he had removed his arm from around your shoulders, and you found that you actually missed it a bit. "Hey, we've got a while before the teacher comes in, want to go hang out in one of the practice rooms?" You nodded, following Loki into one of the empty practice rooms and sitting on the floor beside the small piano that was there. Loki closed the door before sitting beside you.
"I hope you don't mind that I said that. I just thought you looked uncomfortable so I wanted to give you a reason to say no," Loki told you, leaning his head against the wall. "And I know how much you hate being put on the spot like that."
"No, I don't mind at all. Thanks for that, by the way. Brock really doesn't know when the back off," you replied, looking over at him. This was the first time that you had talked to Loki alone, every other time a few of the other choir kids were in the practice room as well. And, if you were being honest, it made you a bit nervous.
"I was actually going to tell you something when Brock started with that nonsense," Loki told you, meeting your gaze.
"Really? What was it?" You asked, not catching on quite yet.
"Well, (y/n), I had this entire speech planned out, but I figured it's best just to go relatively short and sweet. I know that we haven't talked much like this, just on our own, but I find myself liking you. I really want to get to know you better, and hope that you feel the same towards me. And, if you aren't opposed to it, would you actually like to go to Homecoming with me?" Loki asked. Despite what he said about wanting to keep it short and sweet, you found that he was rambling quite a bit. You didn't mind it though, if anything you found it endearing. "I mean, it's completely up to you. Please don't feel pressured to say yes because I said that we were."
"Yeah, I'd actually like that. You seem like a really great guy, and I want to get to know you better too," you said, smiling softly. Loki, on the other hand, had a large smile on his face, like you had just told him the best news that he could have ever received.
"I'm really glad that you said yes, otherwise I would have felt like I had taken a Brock approach to this," Loki joked, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Trust me, your approach was way better," you laughed slightly. Just as Loki was about to say something else, Natasha came up and just banged on the door twice, the signal that the class agreed on for 'teacher's coming, get to your seat'. "Guess that's our cue."
"Yeah, it appears so," Loki said. He got up and then helped you to your feet, the both of you making it to your seats just as the teacher walked in the room.
"Sorry I'm late, I needed to finish some things for ASB. I hope nothing exciting happened while I was gone," the teacher rambled. While she was doing this, your eyes met Loki's from across the room, him just giving a small smile when he realized he was caught looking at you. You responded with a smile of your own, and in your heart you knew that you had made the right decision.
