You couldn't do this anymore. Rarely seeing each other, the constant arguing when you did, it was just too much. The next time you saw him, you would break it off. You couldn't bring yourself to do it over phone or text, you owed him that much at least.
It was maybe a week after you came to that decision that you saw him again. The both of you had been out on constant missions, never seeing more than a glimpse of each other. Not that it really mattered anyways, he never so much as looked in your direction. "Loki?" You asked, approaching him and Tony.
"What?" Loki responded tersely. Even Tony was taken aback by this, the shock on his face evident. Apparently he hadn't been witness to the fights, you pondered bitterly.
"We need to talk," you replied, matching his tone. He nodded, rolling his eyes as you led him to somewhere a little more private. You settled for the training room, pulling the door shut behind the two of you.
"Well, what is it?" Loki asked, arms crossed over his chest.
"We need to break up. I can't deal with this anymore," you artlessly said. There, it was off of your chest and out there. You felt like you had just taken the weight of the world off of your shoulders.
"Deal with what?" Loki asked, eyes narrowing.
"Have you not been paying attention for like the last two months? We rarely see each other, and when we do, it's always like this," you said, voice raising slightly. Was he really that fucking clueless?
"I doubt it's like this, you aren't breaking up with me every time we see each other."
"Can you stop with the sarcasm? I get it, it's kinda your thing, but just listen!" You said.
"I am listening, but you're not saying much! You're just repeating the same damn things," Loki argued, his voice raising as well.
"You're so infuriating, how did I ever fall for you?" You groaned in frustration, your hand now running through your hair.
"Welcome to my world! It's hard to try when you're stuck with a stupid mortal!" Loki yelled, his eyes fiery.
"What did you just say?" You asked, your voice dropping to a dangerous low. "Repeat. What. You. Just. Said."
"You. Stupid. Mortal," he responded, mimicking your tone and getting closer to you. You pulled your hand back, slapping him across those stupid cheekbones. There was a satisfying Smack! that sounded throughout the room, Loki's head snapping to the side. As he slowly turned his head back to face you, you could tell that he would say another venomous thing. "You know, this is a good thing. Especially when I never even loved you."
"You bastard," you growled, stalking away. You left the room with a slam of the door, the tears already prickling at your eyes.
"Woah, (y/n), are you alright?" Pietro asked as you rushed past him.
"Just fucking peachy, Speedy," you said with a choked voice. Pietro turned with wide eyes and saw Loki leaving the same room that you had.
"What did you do?" Pietro asked him. Loki's head was bowed in shame, tears forming in his eyes as well. He didn't respond, instead leaving for his own room. One question was racing through his mind nonstop: What did I just do?
