'Silver's POV'

"I knew you'd come..." She smirks evilly. Tears stream down Kadence's cheeks, he looks at me, his eyes pleading for me to hold him in my arms. His ears are flattened against his head

"Vanessa please, let him go." I do the only thing I can; beg. "Kill me, just let him go. Please." I won't cry, I won't let her make me cry again

"Silver, I will not kill you... Not yet, at least." She looks down to Kadence

"Silver-!" My father, Clarissa, aunt and uncle run into the alleyway, but stop at the sight of Vanessa

"And who would these people be?" She asks, giving each of them a once-over

"You don't need to know..." My voice is quiet. She smirks at me

"You've become such a beautiful creation." She stares at me with her dark green eyes

"Mommy..." Kadence's voice is only a whisper

"Quiet! One more word, and I'll kill you!" She presses the gun into his head even harder than she was before

"Vanessa, please-" My father tries to speak, but she cuts him off

"Shut up, old man!" I can't take it anymore!

"Just let him go!" My voice is harsh, it's easy to tell that I'm holding back tears

"Becoming desperate, are we?" She moves the gun from the side of Kadence's head to under his chin

"What do you want me to do?" A tear escapes my eye and rolls down my cheek

"Silver, I think you know what I want." Of course I do; she wants me to come back with her

She moves the gun and points it at me. I move towards her slowly

"Give Kadence to them." At my command, she pushes Kadence to the ground

"Don't play in the forest by yourself." She smirks. He quickly stands up and scurries over to my father. So that means she doesn't know we met with Mr. Borg, thank goodness

She pushes me behind herself

"Now, all of you leave-" as she moves to point the gun at them, someone moves in front of her, trying to take the gun from her. It's the guys! Sensei must have called them

Before Zane can get the gun out of her hand, she shoots. The shot misses Zane and hits-

"Kadence!" My voice is shrill as he screams and falls to the ground. I run over and kneel beside him. He's bawling. The bullet hit his upper left arm

"Mommy..." He sniffles, then coughs

"Silver, we must get him back to the hideout!" Clarissa states in a panicky tone. I look back at Kadence, his eyes begin to close and his breathing gets more and more shallow

"Go, we can handle her!" Lloyd calls. More shots are fired off, she must have multiple guns hidden under her clothes.

I pick Kadence up and we run back to the hideout. Tears fall relentlessly down my cheeks as his eyes fall fully closed

Clarissa, my father, aunt and uncle take Kadence into the back room, the one they take mutants who have been seriously injured to.

They said I couldn't come in, I argued at first, but Lilian convinced me to stay out of the room until they told me I could come in.

I sit against the wall, Lilian's arms wrapped around me

"He can't die..." I whisper

"He won't... He's going to be okay..." I would be mad if anyone else had just said that to me, if they'd told me something I didn't know was absolutely true. But, from her, it's reassuring.

I hear the guys come back into the hideout. I told Lilian what had happened, so I'm not surprised when she asks the question she does

"Did you kill Vanessa?"

"No, she got away." Kai answers

"Are any of you hurt?"

"No, we are alright." Zane states

None of them try to tell me that Kadence will be okay, they probably know better. They walk off without saying anything else.

"Lilian?" I ask. She looks at me

"Yes?"

"Why does everyone around me have to get hurt?" Her eyes hold unbearable sadness. She uses the sleeve of her shirt to wipe the tears off of my cheeks, she then holds my face in her hands, yet she doesn't answer. I guess she doesn't know how to answer a question like that.

"Lilian..." I close my eyes "do you ever regret meeting me..?" It's a question I've had since I was little, I've just never had the courage to ask her

"Never. Not even once." My tears overflow again and rush down my cheeks

"Thank you... For everything..." I wrap my arms around her and push my face into her shoulder. She softly pets down my hair. I continue to cry, unable to stop myself.
