'Silver's POV'

It's been half an hour, and we haven't heard anything about how Kadence is doing...

"Uh... M-Miss Silver?" I hear the sweet, high-pitched voice that I know belongs to Midnight. I lift my head

"Yes, Midnight?" I can see that she has tears in her eyes, and a few stitches running vertically on the left side of her forehead

"What happened to Kadence..?" She seems afraid to ask the question

"He-..." My voice comes out a croak. I look to Lilian

"He was shot..." She answers for me. A tear slips down my cheek.

"Will he be okay..?" The tears that she held in her eyes now fall down her cheeks

"I don't know..." Those are the only words I can get out before the feeling of being strangled returns to my throat.

I hold my hand out to the black haired girl. She seems surprised for only a moment before she takes it and I gently pull her to sit beside me. I wrap an arm around her shivering body, Lilian's arms still wrapped protectively around me.

~~~
"We must get him to the hospital!" My father rushes out of the room, shouting these words with an unconscious Kadence in his arms
"Dad, what happened?!" I stand up in a panic, as do Midnight and Lilian
"The bleeding won't stop!" Clarissa's voice is filled with panic.
I scoop Midnight up in my arms and follow them out of the hideout, Lilian by my side. We climb into the car that has been hidden in a parking lot, used only for emergencies.
"I've contacted Mr. Borg. He has arranged for a special Doctor to see Kadence, so there is no chance of the scientists knowing that we are at the hospital." I nod at my father's words.
A male doctor waits at the front doors for us. I can tell by the way he looks at Kadence that his injury is more serious than we thought
"Please, follow me." He takes us deep into the crisp, white hospital. He takes Kadence from my father's arms and asks us to wait in the hallway
I sit with my back against the wall, hugging my legs with my head in my knees
I can't do this... I'm going to get him killed...
My stomach churns and I force myself to my feet, running for the nearest bathroom. I throw the door to a stall open, drop to my knees and empty the contents of my stomach into the toilet
I begin sobbing, only pausing to vomit again. I feel someone's warm hand rest on my back. I realize it's Lilian once she starts humming her soothing, loving tune
"I can't do it..." I try to say, but it comes out as another sob. Lilian only continues to pat my back and hum her tune
The same words repeat themselves in my head, turning into a chant
I can't do it... I can't do it... I can't do it!!
Once again, I empty my stomach into the toilet. I push the chant from my mind and allow myself to relax in the presence of Lilian's humming. She eventually lulls me into sleep.
~~~

"Silver... Silver..." Lilian's voice calls me, waking me from my sleep.

I open my eyes and see that I'm back on the floor by Kadence's room; Lilian must have carried me back.

When I look around, everyone is staring at me, and their eyes hold the same emotion: pity.

Pity. For me.

I stand up and wipe my face, ridding it of the dried tears. Before I can ask what's happening, and why they woke me up, my father speaks

"You're allowed to see him, Silver."    His voice is calm

"C-can I go in now?" My voice sounds awful and scratchy, but I don't care. My father answers with a simple nod.

I take a deep breath as I push the door open, and step inside.

There he is, laying in a drug-induced haze. I feel tears prick at my eyes as he looks at me with half closed eyes

"M-mommy..." His voice sounds so small, so vulnerable

"It's me, Kadence. I'm here." I walk to the side of his bed and touch his cheek. I let a tear fall down my cheek and land on my hand, the one on his cheek. I want nothing more then to scoop him up in my arms and hold him, but I know I can't do that right now

"Mommy... I'm okay... You don't need to cry..." His words only make me want to cry harder. He reaches his small, pale hand out to touch me. I lift my hand from his cheek and hold his hand in mine

"Miss. Silver," I turn to see the doctor that was waiting for us at the front doors. Once he sees he has my attention, he continues

"Your son is expected to make a full recovery." He doesn't bother trying to explain how they got the bleeding to stop, I'm sure I wouldn't understand anyway

"Thank you..." He gives a sympathetic smile and nods his head, then turning to exit the room.

I turn back to look at Kadence. He's fallen asleep again, probably due to the drugs.

I give his hand a small squeeze before letting it go.

My son... I'm so sorry you've had to live through all of this...
