Chapter 22: I Know It

'Silver's POV'

I quietly wake Kadence from his sleep

"Mmm..." He sits up slowly, looking at me

"Kadence, we're going to get you out of here, tonight." He smiles

"Really?!" He asks excitedly. I smile

"Really, but you have to be quiet." I put my finger to my lips. He nods and copies my actions

"Silver, let's go." I pick Kadence up and follow Khaos out the door

"Where are the guns?" I ask, as we run down a long hallway

"Follow me." He shows me into a dark room and flicks the lights on. I see many guns, armour and various weapons.

I take a handgun, it's all I can shoot while holding Kadence. I load my gun and take a belt of bullets. I find a helmet and put it on Kadence's head, tying the strap up as tight as it'll go. The helmet is way to big, but it'll protect him from any bullets that fly towards his head.

Khaos takes a much larger gun and loads it quickly, also taking a belt of bullets. He takes a handgun, tucking it into his belt

Suddenly, the speakers turn on with a loud beep

Attention all units, three mutants have escaped. I repeat; three mutants have escaped!

Khaos and I give each other a look, he nods. We run as fast as we can out the door and down many halls to the emergency exit

"It's locked!" I scream, slamming into the door

"Shoot the lock!" He calls back as many white coats flood into the hall. He begins shooting at them, they open fire at us

I stand back and shoot the doorknob with my gun. I kick the door open

"It's open! Let's go!" I run out the door and into the field behind the institute. The field is caged in, but I see a small opening in the top of the wire

"Khaos-!" He can't fly! What are we gonna do?!

"Silver, go, save yourself and Kadence!" I shoot at the white coats

"No, you'll have a terrible life here, they'll continue to use you!" I wish I could think of some way to save him too...

Tears spill from my eyes as he takes the handgun out of his belt

"Kadence, I love you, my son. Silver, save the world, you can do it." He lifts the gun to his head

"Khaos, no!"

"Daddy!!"

But it's to late, he pulls the trigger. Blood flies everywhere, and his body falls to the ground.

Kadence begins to bawl as I fly out of the opening at the top of the cage. I hold him closer to myself and let the tears fall from my cheeks.

They will not take Kadence from me. I won't let them. I'll protect him with my life.

I touch down at the place where I last saw the team. I knock on the door. The door is pulled open and Lilian's face lights up when she sees me

"Silver!" She screams, hugging me tightly

"Lilian..." I breathe in her familiar scent.

The rest of the team spills out the door and soon we're on the front lawn

"Silver!" Cole is the last one out the door. He holds my face with his hands and pushes my lips to his. Oh, how I missed this feeling.

"Silver, where's Julia?" Nya asks

"She's... Dead..." I whisper the second word, hoping they heard me. I hear a chorus of gasps

"Who's this?" Lilian asks. Kadence lifts his head, his teary eyes scanning the guys, his ears twitching at all of the voices

"This is Kadence, my... Son." I wait for a reaction

"How-? You weren't even gone that long?" Jay questions

"They took one of my eggs, and used the indestructible weapons seed, and they made him." I explain

"Where is the indestructible weapon now?" Sensei asks

"...Dead..." I answer quietly

"What?" Kai questions, as if he didn't hear me

"He's dead! Khaos is dead! He killed himself so that we could escape and he didn't have to live anymore!" Kadence pushes his face into my chest and begins bawling again at the mention of his father's name. Tears cascade quickly down my face

"Silver... I'm so very sorry." Misako hugs me "I can assure you that we are going to do whatever we can to help you fulfill your destiny."

"Thank you." I know what she means, but it isn't about my destiny anymore. I'm doing this for them: for Dezmend, Julia, Khaos, and every other experiment ever created. I will destroy them, at any cost.

I bring Kadence into our room in the basement. I sit on my bed with him in my lap, and stroke his hair

"M-mommy... I'm sorry..." Kadence whispers

"Kadence, you don't have anything to be sorry for."

"Yes I do! I know this wouldn't have happened if I wasn't born! Daddy would still be alive!" He yells, pushing away and looking into my eyes

"Kadence, don't say that! I love you, your father loved you too! If he could've come with us, he would have, but he couldn't! And even death is better than spending your life in that place..." My eyes hold tears again

"Mommy, did you live at a place like that when you were little?" Kadence asks

"Yeah... Yeah, I did." Tears fall down my cheeks "that's why I had to get you out of there, because I couldn't let you live the life I did." He reaches up and hugs me tightly

"Thank you mommy. I love you."

"I love you too, Kadence."

He crawls under the covers and I hold back the rest of my tears until he's asleep. After that, they fall relentlessly down my cheeks.

I feel Lilian's arms wrap around me. I turn and cry into her shoulder as she sits on the bed

"Lilian, I had to. I had to do it." She pats my back

"Do what?" She asks

"Get him out of there... My decision got Khaos killed..."

"Silver, there was nothing you could've done. He killed himself, because even death is better than having to live there." Lilian was the first one to tell me that, I remember the night... But she would never allow me to kill myself, I've never figured out why... Until now...

She wanted to get me out of there, she wanted to keep her promise.

Lilian goes to lay down in her bed, and I get in beside Kadence.

Three people, people who were my friends, were killed recently, because of me... Their last words to me repeat themselves in my head...

Good luck. I know you can fulfill your destiny and save the world.

I need you to promise me that you'll destroy them, that you'll go with the guys and destroy them. . . Goodbye, Silver.

Silver, save the world, you can do it.

This is why we'd never tried to escape before. It's because we're never truly free, I will end up back in that place...
