Sabine dug her hand into the Ghost exhaust port, and scrubbed away all the clogging particulates. It's a messy job, but it was her turn for 'scrubbing duty'. It didn't bother her too much, in fact she was hoping they didn't excuse her from her turn due to what was going on with her in the last week.
It had been four days since the Inquisitor raped her, yet it felt like it happened weeks ago.
So much has happened since then...some of it good...most of it bad.
She stopped scrubbing and sighed. She felt like she had aged so much in such little time, one moment she's thinking about how creepy Ezra is, and the next she's wanting him in her.
Gosh, I've changed so much. I used to roll my eyes at him all the time...but now he's actually getting to me.
She shook her head and continued cleaning the Ghosts exterior exhausts. It was dark now and it was getting late, the first day of their short vacation was nearly over.
"You doing okay up there, Sabine?"
She heard Kanan's voice and she looked down to see him looking up at her back on the ground, the only thing illuminating him was the lights from the Ghosts interior. She nodded and gave a small salute with her hand.
"Yeah, I'm almost done" she called down to him. "Just a messy job, I only just got into this new look and I wanna keep it clean".
Kanan nodded and smiled. He glanced at the dark sky.
"Well, it's getting late now...it'll be hard to see. Come down, you can finish it tommorow".
Sabine athletically jumped off the Ghosts hull and skilfully landed on her feet next to Kanan.
"Not exactly feeling very tired" she told him. She gave an innocent smile and rubbed her arm, attempting to gain sympathy. "Could I stay up...a little later?"
Kanan chuckled and crossed his arms.
"Well, I was actually about to ask you if you'd be interested in going out for a drink with me. I'm not exactly in the mood to sleep either".
Sabine gave a small laugh and nudged him with her elbow.
"Are you offering to take me out on a date, Mr. Kanan?" She said with a playful intrigued whisper.
The Jedi rolled his eyes and laughed back.
"You call it whatever you want, Sabine. But I think of it more as just two friends getting to socialise".
Sabine sighed, placed a hand on her hip and looked out the black sky, with many bright starts embedded within.
It is a lovely night.
Sabine confirmed that she'd stay up with Kanan so the two could escape from the familiar interiors of the Ghost, and live a little.
Better than me getting tormented by more dreams, for sure.
"Good" Kanan said pleased. "I didn't really want to go out on my own. I've already got the credits, let's go. The others won't mind, for sure".
They both began to walk out of the docking bay. Sabine was happy she was going to get some time with Kanan, she didn't think the two of them had any real socialising in a long time.
I feel bad about how I treated him on the day the Inquisitor nabbed me.
Kanan also had many thoughts on his mind. He was concerned about Sabine's attitude towards Ezra, he could tell there was something going on between them...and Sabine wasn't exactly doing a great job hiding it. The clues began to add up, and she did straight up admit she bought condoms for Ezra especially.
He would have to stop that eventually, if Ezra was to become a Jedi. Ezra was very...unfocused, more so than he previously was, during their training sessions. Ezra has a crush on Sabine, yet Sabine wasn't returning the affection...she's just teasing him. He doubted she'd ever return his affection, she had made it very apparent that she wasn't interested in him before.
"This will tear him up if I don't do something" he thought. "Sabine needs to...back off".
He felt guilty just thinking like that. Although he couldn't just stand by and let them be the way they are, he didn't feel right in just interfering with normal teenage behaviour. As a Jedi, he never got the experience such a thing, he never truly felt love until he met Hera, after he abandoned his Jedi ways.
"I can't be the Jedi I was expected to be, but there's hope for Ezra".As the two Rebels walked in the calmer night, Sabine heard Kanan sigh and felt his hand on her shoulder, urging her to stop.
She looked at him, her face showing she was ready for what he had to say...but she could just feel that it wasn't something good.
"Sabine...I..." He started very reluctantly, he still hadn't fully reached a decision, yet here he was. "I need to talk about you. You and Ezra".
She swallowed hard, and nodded quickly. Her eyes were fixed directly into his. She didn't utter a word.
Kanan looked down at the floor and took a breath. He felt like such a villain for what he was about to say.
"Sabine...you need to...stop what you're doing with Ezra" he felt an explosion go off in his chest as he said that. "I...understand that you've developed certain...interests...but this...this isn't good for him. I know you'll hate me for saying this but...you need to leave Ezra alone".
Sabine's rate of breathing increased and she felt a slight trembling in her fingers. She suddenly felt so wrong for ever attempting to take her desires on Ezra, and while she always knew that she wasn't exactly doing any good...to have someone tell her this, to take notice and ask her to stop...
She reacted in the only way she felt she could.
"Oh". She said quietly, nodding her head and looking directly at Kanan, wide eyed underneath her helmet. "I-I'm sorry, I didn't think I was being any trouble- I just thought I could..."
He patted her shoulder and nodded understandingly.
"I know. You didn't mean harm, I get that. I'm just saying...if you continue what you're doing with Ezra, you'll just make it so much harder for him." He placed both his hands on her shoulders and looked straight into the shorter girls T-shaped visor. "You know he has a crush on you, right? If you keep doing this, you'll be providing a large distraction from his training...and Ezra is very vulnerable as is, training at his age was forbidden in the days of the Jedi Order..."
The Mandalorian quickly nodded.
"Yeah, yeah! I always knew...I just didn't..." She sighed as she rubbed her arms and looked down at the floor, ashamed. "I'm sorry...you're right, Kanan".
There was silence between them. Kanan felt like he had just crushed her, and he feared how Ezra would react. If Ezra found out that he had just discouraged Sabine from getting closer to him...he would get angry.
"Thank you Sabine" he smiled weakly and removed his hands from her. "Thank you for understanding".
The girls head was swimming. She would have to push Ezra away now, like she did in the past. Ezra will wonder why...he'd feel so rejected. She would feel so guilty.
Its all my fault. Why did I...even FUCKING try?
"You don't need to tell Ezra" he told her. "You can just go back to being normal friends. In time, he'll stop expecting more advancements".
Sabine nodded again. She understood Kanan's concern completely, the desires that she directed towards Ezra...it just vanished.
But for how long?
"C'mon" Sabine said as she pushed her thoughts deep inside her. She forced her tone of voice to sound more cheerful, not wanting their evening to be miserable. "I could totally do with a drink, now".
Underneath his regret, Kanan found it amusing that Sabine thought she was going to get alcohol or something...she was still too young for that stuff.
He took a sigh of relief as he followed her. She took that much better than expected. The bigger concern now...is if Ezra found out it was Kanan that got Sabine to stop getting close with him.
"Assuming Sabine is true to her words" he hoped.
