Ezra's vision grew blurry as he looked at what was left of Kallus. His head felt very heavy, and his shoulders felt weak. He stumbled onto his knees and took a deep breathe, trying to calm himself. The stench of smoking flesh filled his nostrils, and it sickened him.
"Ketsu...Ketsu!?" He heard a small while away. "Are you alright? Ketsu!?"
Ezra forced himself to look at the direction in which Kallus had taken a final shot at, and he saw Sabine crouched over Ketsu with Hondo rushing over.
"Ketsu took the hit..." He realised.
Ezra sighed. If...if he hadn't gotten distracted, Kallus wouldn't have ever been able to fire at her. He would have to prey that Ketsu was alright...but despite wanting to feel anxiety for her condition...he was shocked at himself to realise that he was feeling...hope?
"Oh my god, babe!?" He heard again, seeing Sabine pull off her girlfriend's helmet. "Ketsu!? Speak to me!"
Ezra supposed that he would have to check out what had happened. He stood up and walked over to them...but he came across a stray arm, clad in armour identical to Ketsu's...its digits were still twitching. His eyes widened with shock, the hit had blown off Ketsu's entire left forearm...
"But she can survive that, right?" He thought.
Sabine lightly slapped the side of Ketsu's face, who then opened her eyes and appeared confused at what had just happened. Her pupils were unfocused and she could only let out small incomprehensible mumbles.
Sabine was thankful to see that she wasn't dead, but it wasn't time to feel relief quite yet. Ketsu had still been shot by a bo-rifle, a very powerful blaster. She feared for her life.
"Ketsu, you alright? Say something!" Sabine begged, holding her and looking hard into her.
Ketsu finally managed to look back at Sabine, and she tensed her face when she suddenly felt the pain through the shock. She gasped as she wriggled her body, but felt something was missing.
"I...I can't..." She tried to say. "...can't feel...my arm..."
Sabine scanned over her, and gasped when she saw she was missing a limb. She looked around and saw the dismembered arm, lying on the floor and completely torn off. She gasped even louder and began to slightly panic.
"Manda!" She exclaimed. "Okay...okay, stay with me Ketsu! Um...let's try and get you on your feet? Let's get you up!"
Sabine took Ketsu's still-attached arm and wrapped it around her shoulders, and helped Ketsu on her feet after a bit of struggle. The Mandalorian was going to live, but she was completely stunned by the sudden loss of her limb. When Ketsu looked at her arm lying on the ground, she suddenly grew limp and fell over, almost taking Sabine with her.
Damn, she's in shock.
"Ezra, Hondo!" Sabine called out. "Help me carry her! Damn it, Ezra...I thought you said you were watching Kallus!"
Ezra felt he had little excuse.
"I'm sorry" He simply said.
Sabine sighed and shook her head. Now wasn't the time to spout accusations...Ketsu needed a doctor, a medical droid.
The injury reminded Sabine of the time she nearly lost her own arm, when it was snapped under the strength of a big Inquisitor. Thankfully, Ketsu's injury was already cauterised by the blaster bolt and had no fear of infection or blood loss...but unlike Sabine, she lost her WHOLE arm...
At least I got to keep mine...
Hondo helped Sabine carry Ketsu across the fields to the Shadow Caster, pulling himself out of his usual humorous personality in the spur of the serious moment. Ezra could only watch them...he was still struggling with the feelings inside him, battling against him. He didn't feel relieved to see Ketsu was alive...he felt...disappointed. It made him feel disgusted with himself.
"I can't believe...no...I AM glad she's fine..." He told himself. "I am!"
Growing angry with himself over his failure to prevent Ketsu's injury and how he felt about said injury, he pulled out his lightsaber and unleashed his fury over a stack of containers, mercilessly swiping his weapon through them. When smoking rubble was left before him, he took a breathe and deactivated his weapon.
"Okay...forget it, you're needed now!" He reminded himself. "Go help the others!"
Ezra ran after his companions, and didn't look back once.
