It was time. There was a lot of tiring searching and anxiety to go through...but finally, Sabine could really bring Ezra back. She had a straightforward goal...and it was in reach.
I made a promise. I'm bringing him back.
Sabine stood by Ketsu's side as the latter piloted the Shadow Caster towards the seedy planet of Ahnkural. The planet, as Ketsu knew, had an unpleasant climate. It had vast swamps, dust storms, cold weather and it rained often. Weather never bothered Sabine, but she much preferred having a sun to bask her tan in.
We're coming, Ezra.
Initially they were heading in alone, though. The plan was that the force field protecting the base would be disabled by Sabine and Ketsu, who would land their ship a distance from the Deathwatch base and sneak into the place. They were likely to fit right in with the other Mandalorians...hopefully people wouldn't give them a second look...and if they did? Then they wouldn't look too hard.
That's wishful thinking...
Once the shield was down, it exposed the base to Protector airstrikes. It was going to be risky with them still in the area, but apparently Fenn Rau wanted to engage the enemy in the ground too. Typical Mandalorian honour, and all. Sabine could relate.
You'll want to see the life of your enemies fade before your eyes, in clear view.
Sabine was hoping they could nab Ezra, then disable the shields and run off with him...leaving The Protectors to do their work. She doubted it would be that easy, though.
I can sure dream.
"Cloaking field up" Ketsu announced. "I've already infiltrated the place once before, but I didn't catch on where the power source might be. I guess we'll just look for something that looks important"
Sabine brought enough explosives with her. Some non-lethal paint bombs...and some nasty ones.
Some.
The Shadow Caster made its landing in the middle of a foggy, thick-swamped forest. As they stepped out, Sabine felt the cold, humid air. A place like this must suck for a boy that came from a warm, calm planet like Lothal. Then again...Ezra hadn't been on his home planet for some time. He'll have adapted.
"I don't know how you plan to get Ezra to come with us" Ketsu said as they trodded through thick mud. "You gonna knock him out and carry him?"
Ketsu seemed pretty convinced that Ezra had betrayed them or something, that he had no intention of coming back and that trying to reason with him was pointless. Sabine would beg to differ.
He's a good person...I've just misunderstood him.
And she'd have to be straight with Ketsu.
"By telling him the truth" Sabine told her. "By telling him I love him"
Ugh, that sounded cheesy.
She accepted that, now. She needed Ezra to know that...and if he did? Things could be better. She was sorry for pushing him away...and if she has him back, she'd consider...changing things.
"Well, if it works" Ketsu muttered. "It's your life, you tell him whatever you need to"
Ketsu stopped for a moment when she heard Sabine grunt for a moment and hunch over. She knew exactly what was coming next, and it was exactly this that made her uncomfortable with Sabine coming with her.
"Hold on...this'll only take a sec" Sabine said as she removed her helmet and vomited. "Ugh...getting worse, I swear"
"Yeah, that's the idea" Ketsu informed her. "Gets worse the longer you're pregnant. You really shouldn't come with me"
Sabine ignored her advice and pressed on when she was done. They had a long walk ahead...
Noted.
"Let's try and survive today, yeah?" Ketsu proposed. "I have no intention of dying today, and neither should you"
Sabine could certainly agree with that.
"It's pretty dark, that'll make us harder to recognise" Sabine supposed. "It'll also make Ezra harder to find...but I'm sure he'll stand out amongst whoever is in this place"
If they're lucky, this will be over by sunrise.
Rook was outside, taking a stroll to clear her head. She was acting her as a distraction, a decoy for Maul...it was clear to her that Maul didn't have Mandalore in his interests. Only a teenage boy, and a holocron. That was her whole purpose to him...and now she is acting as a mere convenience for him.
"Fine, he's going to leave" She thought. "He better not come back here...he doesn't deserve to rule us"
Maul had certainly fallen since The Clone Wars.
Rook came across Ezra as she returned to her tent. It seemed he had a goodbye to share.
"Rook, I...sorry this is the way it has to be" He told her. "You're a pretty good person, and it's a shame you can't come with us"
Rook wasn't mad at him, specifically. Just Maul. Ezra had a been good kid that was fun to tease to her hearts content.
"I don't blame you, really" She said with a sigh. "I suppose you have to do what you have to do. I'll miss our little talks, everyone else around here is boring"
Ezra scratched his head out. Yes, their talks...the most oddly intriguing thing he had endured here. Aside from the secrets of the holocron, of course.
"Yeah, uh...those were fun" He admitted reluctantly. "They...reminded me of Sabine"
Of course he now knew of Rook's relation to Sabine...but Rook didn't know that.
"Never thought a kid going through puberty could resist me, though" She remarked with a chuckle. "When you were standing in front of me with that big erection, I thought you were gonna tear your shorts off and fuck me senseless"
He returned her chuckle, albeit more uneasily. This was the weirdest conversation he had in weeks...he sorta missed it.
"You got a fetish for young dick, huh?" He wondered.
She crossed her arms and gave him an accusing look, curling her lips. What was he getting at?
"Hey, don't think of me as some kind of paedophile...your legal on Mandalore" She told him, familiar with having this discussion with other non-Mandalorians. "Sabine not ever tell you that? You're an adult by thirteen...and your what? Sixteen? Seventeen? You could get married!"
He shrugged. He supposed it was okay with him and Sabine because...they were both underage, on any other culture that wasn't Mandalorian. Rook was not underage, she was thirty seven. So even if there wasn't anything wrong with it...still seemed strange.
"Sorry, I didn't mean it like that" He apologised.
She assured him that no offence was taken.
"You should be saying sorry to your dick" She told him with a grin as she began to walk off. "I'm certain it wanted a piece of me"
Ezra was sure it ran in her kriffing genes, or something...he found it so hard to say no to these Mandalorian females. He was surprised the Mandalorians were not a matriarch society. The men should be heeling over for them.
"I want a piece of you" Ezra mumbled, but still forced himself to speak clearly enough for her to understand.
She stopped and turned around, then began walking back up to him. Where was she going? She wasn't done talking...she was loving this.
"Yeah, well what can you do?" She questioned. "You gotta go soon, very soon. This was supposed to be your goodbye...what is it now? A request to do me?"
Ezra scratched his head again. He was afraid that he'd regret not taking the opportunity if he wasn't going to see her again, but he wasn't sure what his brain wanted to tell her. Although it seemed he was thinking with his dick, not his brain.
"You make this so hard" She said with a grunt of annoyance, rubbing her temples. "I'm not a dramatic person Ezra. If you wanted to fuck me, just say so"
He stared at her blankly for a moment.
"I wanted to fuck you" He blurted out.
She gave him a slow, mocking clap and then scruffled his hair. He was too stiff with embarrassment to even react.
"There, was that so hard? It's not like your weird for thinking that way, Ezra" She told him, giving him a kiss on the cheek as she took it as a compliment. "Now, have you done all you need to do before you leave? Though...I guess you didn't bring much with you to begin with"
"Like...a holocron and the clothes on his back" She remembered.
"Yeah...just waiting for Maul" He told her.
She nodded. She was sure Maul had a crates worth of evil plans written on paper to take with him, and pictured him nearly folding and placing each bit of delicate paper in a precise way, taking his time.
It made her smile.
"I don't know if I want to go with him" Ezra admitted. "He...I don't trust him"
Honestly, Rook wasn't sure if she did either.
"It's up to you, really" Rook said.
He nodded slowly, and then went his separate way from her. She watched him walk away and then sighed.
