Ezra stared into the wall of his cabin, laid on his back in his bed. It was early in the morning, but he felt wide awake. Constantly distracted by the question he so badly needed answers for.
"Do you actually love me?" "Are you just using me for pleasure?" "How can I change to make you accept me?"
It's a good thing Kanan hadn't intended to train him during this small vacation, otherwise he'd flop the exercises without a doubt. Not to mention, Kanan is able to sense distractions within Ezra.
"But he doesn't know about me and Sabine" he thought. "I think..."
With a sigh, he jumped off his bunk-bed and crept out without alerting Zeb, who was loudly snoring.
Going into the Lounge, he still saw Sabine sleeping on the couch, almost hanging right off the edge, soon ready to faceplant on the floor. He wouldn't really have to do anything to wake her up, she'd accidentally wake herself up soon.
"At least she's not sleep-talking"
He reluctantly and quietly took her arm and shook her, while lightly patting the side of her pretty face.
After a while, he heard her mumbling.
"Go away..." She quietly said, tired and with her eyes still closed. "I'm try'na sleeeep..."
He shook her a little more aggressively and she soon woke up, eyes open and clearly displeased.
"Seriously, Ezra?" She questioned with a yawn as she sat up. "I was having a good dream, I don't get too many of those now"
A dream about Lando asking about making me a professional, well-known artist...
It must've been early in the morning, she felt too tired to have had a complete rest.
Ezra sat down besides her.
"Sabine, can I ask you something?"
She stretched her muscles and yawned again, nodding.
"Uh-hu"
He sighed. This was the moment, the moment he'd find out once and for all.
"Sabine..." He started. "Do you love me, or do you not?"
She was startled by the direct question...she wasn't expecting something that would be so hard for her to answer.
Do I love him? Well, of course, but...
"Love you?" She repeated. "Of course I do, do you not think I do?"
Ezra shook his head.
"I mean as someone more than a good friend" he said, giving more information.
She let out an 'oh' and it was at that moment that Ezra knew her answer would be different under those circumstances.
"Well..." She began hesitantly. "I...I like you, a lot...I just don't really..."
He stopped her and brought himself closer to her, placing a hand on her shoulder and another on her leg, trying to...appeal to her...
"C'mon, you must love me..." He probed, with a smile on his face. "We...we had sex together..."
She rolled her eyes, which Ezra say and annoyed him.
It can often takes more than sex to see someone as a lover.
She took his hands and made him release his hold on her...and that emotionally crushed him. He groaned in irritation as it became increasingly clear to him that he had gotten nowhere with her.
"So, what? That was just all for pleasure?" He asked angrily. "...was it all meaningless??"
Sabine looked at him, shocked. His sudden anger was a surprise and it made her uneasy.
"What? No! I did say you'd be my friend with benefits..." She admitted. "Friend with benefits isn't the same as true love, Ezra..."
The boy brought his knees to his face and wrapped his arms around his legs.
"I went through with it because I couldn't say no to being closer to you" he told her. "I did it because I thought you'd soften up to me, that you might..."
He sighed yet again. He got his answer. Sabine didn't love him, all those moments he shared with her was simply so she could release tension...and while he enjoyed those moments as they were happening, they only made him frustrated after they were done.
"Not even when you kissed me...?" He asked as a last resort, clinging to some last hope.
Sabine looked down at her naked feet, silent and her face covered with guilt.
Having gotten his answer, he stood up and turned from her.
"Fucking slut" he mumbled in his moment of blind anger. "Go cry about your abortion some more..."
Sabine gasped and tightened her fists, watching him with both shock and anger.
What did you just FUCKING say!?
Coming to realisation at what he said and tearing himself from his rage, his heart suddenly boomed and he felt a huge wave of regret...he wanted to turn around and say his whole-hearted apologies...but he didn't. His legs continued walking out of the Lounge, and his face tensed really hard to stop himself from bursting out in tears.
He found himself in his cabin, and he then collapsed to his knees.
"Oh my gosh, WHY DID I SAY THAT?" He screamed in his head. "Why did that come out?"
It was over. Sabine would never want to talk to him now. He felt so guilty, he never wanted to look at her again...for a brief moment he was almost tempted to take his lightsaber and end himself...
"Calm down..." He told himself. "It's alright...maybe if you go back right now..."
But...he couldn't.
He took his clothes and put them on, unable to bring himself to wearing to black jacket Sabine had bought for him, and ran out his room to the cargo section, lowered the ships ramp and out from bay seventeen, rushing to the still sparsely populated streets of Garel.
He needed a moment to think, a moment to be far away from everyone he knew. Especially Sabine.
His heart was freezing, and his skin felt like ice...his attachment to the Force felt stronger.
"Not again..." He whispered to himself.
He stood still and took a deep breath, trying to make sense of the situation and calm himself.
