Let her go, Vivica. Let her go. I told myself, as I watched her disappear into the darkness.I stood there for a while, then closed my eyes in an attempt to calm my temper and stop myself from going after her.
I took some deep, slow breaths, then used all the strength in my body to close the door.
I slowly walked over to the sofa and took a seat.
Calm the hell down, Vivica.
I got up again and started pacing.
Calm down, calm down, calm down!
—No don't calm down. She overstepped a boundary. Go get that crazy bitch.
Leave her to Dimitri, vivica.
—She didn't just threaten Dimitri, she threatened you.
Ahhhhhhhhhh!!
I folded my fists tightly and closed my eyes. My anger escalated. I couldn't control it.
I got my phone and dialled Dimitri's number. He answered on the second ring.
"Hello." He sounded like he had been sleeping.
"Hi," I said. "It's Vivica. I was just wondering if you know where Amanda is staying."
"Why?"
I racked my brain for something to say. "Well, I was planning to book into a hotel this weekend and I don't want to end up in the same place as her," I lied.
"Why would you book into a hotel?"
"My rent is overdue," I said. "I will be evicted soon."
"Then I'll pay it."
No," I said, getting impatient. "I don't want you to. I'll come up with the money and pay it myself. Now where is she staying?"
"If you're planning to pay it then why are you staying at a hotel?"
Just answer the damn question! "I don't plan to pay it right away," I said. "I have to come up with the money first."
"Ok. But couldn't it wait until tomorrow? I was sleeping."
"Just tell me where she's staying and get back to sleep," I said.
"Ok. She's not staying at a hotel. She called me earlier today and told me she was staying at the house down the street," he said. "The purple and white one with the large flowers in front and the palm trees."
"Ok. Thank you," I said quickly and hung up before he could say anything else.
I went to my room and changed into skinny jeans, a Polo shirt, and heels.
Returning to the living room, I attempted for the final time to calm down. My anger only got worse.
I grabbed my keys and a flashlight and headed out the door, locking it behind me.
I turned on the flashlight and headed down the driveway then down the road.
When I was halfway there my temper reached boiling point and I ran the rest of the way.
The house was dark. I turned off the flashlight then headed up the driveway and to the front porch. I knocked calmly and listened. I heard movement inside then the door was slowly opened.
Amanda was on the other side. At first she seemed surprised to see me, then her lips stretched into a smile.
"Get off my porch, bitch," she said calmly.
"Oh I'm not going anywhere until you carry out your threat," I said. "You said you were going to slit my throat? Well here I am, bitch. Let's see you do it."
She laughed. "I would, but I don't want to get my hands dirty on your filthy skin!" She snapped. "Now get outta here before I have to carry out that threat." She gave me a shove that sent me stumbling backwards.
I regained my balance and gasped.
She did not just do that.
I launched at her, using all my anger to give her a mighty shove. She went flying through the air and landed heavily on the floor of what looked like her living room.
I stepped inside and locked the door, the pulled off my right heel and walked over to her.
"You're crazy!" she yelled as I stood above her with the shoe in my hand.
"No bitch," I said. "You just bring out the worst in me."
I started hitting her with the outsole of my shoe. I don't know what came over me but I couldn't stop. She was yelling but my temper made the words unrecognizable.
There was a sudden pounding on the door. I didn't care. I just kept on hitting each and every part of her. The yelling stopped. My mind paused as I heard the loud crash of the door falling to the ground but my hand kept going. I stopped when strong hands grasped my arms and pulled me away from her. I looked at her unconscious body.
I was breathing heavily as I turned around to face Dimitri.
"What the hell, Vivica?" He said unbelievably.
I shook my head. "I'm sorry," I said. "I lost my temper."
"What could she have done to you to deserve this?" He asked.
"She came to my house in the middle of the night and threatened me," I said. "She said that if she sees me getting too chummy with you she was going to slit my throat."
"And you beat her with your shoe?"
"She shoved me first," I said defensively.
"Is this why you wanted to know where she was staying?" He asked.
I didn't answer.
"Vivica, why didn't you tell me?" He said. "I could've talked to her."
"Talked to her?" I said. "She's crazy! She can't be talked to."
"I know her," he said. "I could've talked to her."
Was he for real? "She came into my house and called me a bitch. My own house! Then she woke me up in the middle of the night and threatened me. Then she crossed the line again by putting her hands on me." I sighed. "It's very hard and rare for me to lose my temper but she crossed a line."
"If I had known she put her hands on you I would've probably killed her myself, but you shouldn't have come here in the first place."
"Like I said, I lost my temper. I'm sorry," I said.
"Is she even alive?" Dimitri asked suddenly.
I rushed over to her and felt her wrist, then breathed a sigh of relief. She was alive.
I nodded to Dimitri.
He smiled. "I didn't know you had this in you," he said.
"I'm sorry."
