My heart caught in my mouth as Kevin's rough voice cut through the air.

"Where is it?" He shouted angrily.

My insides shook and I swallowed a lump that had formed in my throat.

"What are you talking about?" I barely managed to say.

"You know damn well what I'm talking about. Let me have it and I'll be out of your way."

I inhaled deeply. "I don't know what you're talking about."

He angrily pushed pass me, causing me to almost lose my balance.

He walked past Dimitri as if he wasn't there.

"Where the hell is the chip?" He asked.

"I don't have it."

"Cut the crap, Vivica. We both know you took it. Just give it to me and no one gets hurt."

"I don't have it," I repeated.

I tried hard not to flinch as he moved towards me and stopped just a few inches away.

"Give me the chip, Vivica," he said, "and don't make me hurt you!"

I saw determination and danger in his cold, dark eyes and knew better than to argue.

My voice shook as I whispered, "I gave it to the police."

His jaws dropped and he stared at me with anger and fury evident on his face.

"You son of a bitch!"

I stepped back until my back was against the wall as he moved toward me.

His hand reached out in fury and I flinched as it neared my face.

I gasped as Dimitri grabbed hold of his hand, pinned it behind him, and brought him face first into the wall beside me.

He was hardly there for two seconds when, in one movement, he pulled free, grabbed hold of Dimitri and switched positions, then folded his fists and aimed a punch at Dimitri's face.

Dimitri ducked, causing Kevin's fist to crash into the wall, then aimed his fist at Kevin's face. It connected with his left temple and he made a semi circular spin before stumbling backward.

He regained his balance, however, and came back at Dimitri with his fists clenched. He aimed again and I flinched as the punch landed in Dimitri's side.

Without any indication that he felt it, Dimitri landed some quick, hard punches in Kevin's stomach, causing him to fold over slightly in pain.

Kevin then used his hands to block the blows to his stomach as he took a few steps back from the extension capability of Dimitri's hands. Dimitri, however, moved with him and continued to attack.

I looked around, searching for something I could use to help Dimitri out. I got irritated as I realized I couldn't find anything.
I tried to make my way to the kitchen but was blocked by the fighting men.

Kevin had somehow gotten out of Dimitri's attacks and now gave him a heavy shove that sent him crashing into the wall behind him.

I gasped.

Dimitri quickly leaped forward and grabbed hold of Kevin by his sleeves, then turned in an arc so that Kevin's back was against the wall. He folded his fist and aimed a punch at Kevin's face. It landed with a loud thud in the centre.

I stared wide-eyed as Kevin, having lost his balance and maybe his consciousness, stumbled forward and landed face down on the ground.

Dimitri quickly turned to me.

"Are you ok?" He asked me.

"I should be asking you that," I said.

"I'm fine," he said. "We should get the police over here."

I nodded. "I'll go call them."

The words were hardly out of my mouth when I saw Kevin coming up behind Dimitri, whose back was now turned to him.

I didn't have time to think about how or when he got up. A rush of adrenaline escaped from my glands and I jumped into action. No sooner had my eyes glimpsed the lamp on the small table next to me than I grabbed it and already had it aimed at Kevin.

"Look out!" I yelled to Dimitri.

He ducked, and the lamp landed in Kevin's face, sending him back to the ground, then landed on the ground in pieces.

It all happened so fast it got me a bit dizzy.

I walked over to where Kevin was lying on the ground. There was blood trickling down his face and neck from a wound on his forehead.

I bit my nail as my conscience started to nibble at my mind.

What have I done?

"Why do you look so guilty?" Dimitri asked behind me. "He deserved it."

I shrugged. "Yea, I know, but it still feels wrong."

"It'll pass," he said. "Get me some ropes."

I stared questioningly at him. "For what?" I asked.

"I'm going to tie him up until the police gets here."

"Why?" I asked. "He's unconscious."

"Well, I don't want him surprising us again like he just did," he said.

I sighed and went to get the ropes. When I returned I handed them to Dimitri and watched as he tied first Kevin's feet then his hands.

"I'm going to go call the police," I told him and he nodded.

I took my phone from where I had left it on the sofa and dialled 119. When there was an answer, I briefly explained to the person what happened and gave my address.

After hanging up the phone, I walked back over to where Dimitri was standing over Kevin and gave him a long, hard look.

"What?" He asked, his eyes on Kevin.

"Where did you learn to fight like that?"

He shrugged. "It's a long story."

I looked down at Kevin's unconscious body, then at Dimitri again.

"Thanks," I said.

He looked up from Kevin and looked me in the eyes. "It's nothing," he said.

I looked away. I could feel his stare piercing my face.

I heard sirens outside and hurried towards the door. As I opened it I saw a police car pulling into my driveway. The doors were pushed opened and about four uniformed officers rushed towards me.

My heart did a little flip as Dimitri came up behind me and placed a warm hand on my arm.

"It's ok," he said.
