I couldn't remember falling asleep or for how long I was sleeping but I woke up some time later to a quiet knock on the door.I shifted on the unfamiliar, soft, comfortable sheets and opened my eyes.
Where was I?
I got into a sitting position and looked around. I was lying on a bed in a fairly large and neatly tidied bedroom.
I gasped and jumped off the bed as I started to panic. Have I been captured?
"Vivica?" Dimitri said on the other side of the door.
I let out a loud sigh of relief. "Yea?" I managed to say.
"Can I come in?"
"Yea," I said. "Where am I?"
He opened the door and entered wearing nothing but shorts, and I couldn't help but stare at his sexy upper body. He was carrying a tray with a glass of what looked like orange juice, a mug, and a plate with something on it.
I sat on the edge if the bed and waited for him to say something.
"Good morning," he said as he took a seat beside me. "This is one of my spare bedrooms. You fell asleep so I brought you here since your bed is not sleepinable." He handed me the tray. "I brought you breakfast."
"Sleepinable?" I said with a faint smile as I took the tray. "That's not even a word."
He smiled.
I didn't realize how hungry I was until I saw the mouthwatering peanut buttered toasts and scrambled eggs lying on the plate.
"Did you make this?" I asked him.
He laughed. "Of course not," he said.
I smiled and took a bite of toast. Delicious. He watched as I ate in silence, then drank the OJ and sipped the coffee.
He took the tray when I was done and placed it on a small table near the bed, then turned to face me.
"Are you ready to talk to me?" He asked.
I sighed. "I wish I could tell you, Dimitri, but I can't."
"Yes, you can," he said in a soft and trustable tone.
I took a deep breath. I needed to talk to someone and Dimitri seemed to be the only person I could talk to. Something about him made me trust him more than I have ever trusted anyone else.
"Okay," I said. "I used to be married to a man named Kevin Campbell."
I paused and watched as his expression changed. He didn't say anything, just sat and waited for me to continue.
"When we just met he was sweet and everything, a perfect gentleman." I smiled bitterly at the memory. "He used to open my doors, pull out my chairs, take me places, tell me he loved me. I fell for it all and eventually I think I fell in love with him. We got married after 2 months of knowing each other.
"After about a year of marriage I found out that he was a drug lord and the leader of a Mafia gang. I confronted him about it and he threatened me. He said if I ever told anyone he was going to kill my family then kill me. I was scared out of my wits but never told anyone about it.
"His gang, 4th Generation, had some enemies. There is this chip. I don't know how it came about but it has the name of all the members of Kevin's gang and enough evidence to put him and all the members in jail for a very long time, possibly for life. With him out of the picture, his enemies will take over and so they desperately want the chip.
"Somehow Kevin got hold of the chip and had planned to destroy it. I had seen him hide it inside the mattress so one day when he was away I removed it and put it in a safety deposit box at a bank in Kingston. I'm not sure why but I couldn't let him destroy something that could be used to put him where he belonged.
"Kevin found out it was missing and I think he knew that I took it, but he never said anything about it.
"I divorced him and moved back in with my parents and little brother. I came home one day to see my parents' house trashed the same way mine was. Kevin then he came to the house and told me that he knew I had the chip and that if he goes to jail everyone I ever knew, including my family, would be killed, then he would be coming after me.
"I was scared of being so close to him so I left Kingston and came to live in Montego Bay. I thought it was all over until yesterday."
Dimitri had listened intently without interrupting as I spoke.
"Wow," he said at last. "That's a lot to take in."
I nodded.
"I will fix this for you," he said, taking my hand. "Don't worry."
"This can't be fixed," I told him. "Please keep out of it. There's nothing you can do."
"Yes, there is. Let me help you."
I sighed. Why did I tell him anything?
"You should get your family to a safe place and turn the chip over to the police. I'll get you the security you need." He said.
"No," I answered. "I know a lot of people, not just my family. I will be jeopardizing people's lives if I do that."
"Kevin doesn't know all the people you know and I bet he was bluffing when he said he would kill everyone you know."
"You don't know Kevin," I said. "He's very powerful. He probably has people spying on me right this moment. We can't mess with him."
"You would have destroyed the chip if you didn't believe there was a way. You have to take him down or you'll never have any peace."
I sighed. He was right, I needed to do something.
I looked him in the eyes. "Okay. What do you suggest?"
