The room was quiet after Amanda left. Kevin sat in one corner, just staring at his shoe as if he was waiting for the right moment to "get rid of me".

I was still lying on the ground. I struggled to get into a sitting position, failed, and fell back helplessly to the floor.

Kevin glanced up briefly, then looked away again.

I sighed. My stomach roared.

" I'm hungry," I said, breaking the silence. "Can you at least feed me before you kill me? I don't want to die hungry."

He laughed.

"What?" I asked.

He didn't answer. Instead, he got to his feet and walked towards the door.

"Is that a yes?" I asked him.

He still didn't answer. He opened the door and left.

I tried again to get into a sitting position and, like before, I failed and landed on my arm.

Cursing under my breath, I tugged at the ropes once again, but got the same results as before. I gave up trying and just laid there, until I heard footsteps approaching the door again. I shifted my position so I could see who was approaching.

Kevin opened the door and walked in, carrying a plate and a glass of orange juice.

He walked over to me and placed them on the floor.

I stared at them, then at Kevin, then back at them, then back at Kevin.

"What?" He asked, sitting in the corner again.

"Aren't you going to untie me?" I asked.

"Why would I do that?"

"Because I can't eat by just looking at the food," I snapped.

"You're beginning to get a little too demanding, Vivica. Don't make me end you before I have to."

I sighed. "So how do you expect me to eat? What's the sense in bringing me food if I won't be able to eat it?"

I gasped as he jumped to his feet and pulled a silver-bladed knife with an edge that looked sharp enough to cut through titanium from the waist of his jeans.

"Hey, what are you planning to do with that?" I said, trying to back away but failing miserably.

He walked towards me. The closer he got to me, the farther up my throat my heart crept.

He was standing above me, using the knife to make small, quick arcs through the air.

"Kevin." It came out as an almost inaudible whisper.

I was lying on my stomach, my hands and the chair behind me.

Kevin crouched beside me, holding the knife a few centimetres above my back.

I tried desperately to get away, Flicking and fluttering like a fish without water.

I screamed, and arched my back in anticipation of the sharp blade.

The knife was moving. I couldn't see it but I could feel it moving towards my back.

I screamed. And screamed. I knew no one but maybe Amanda could hear me and I didn't want to give her the satisfaction of hearing me scream but I couldn't help it. I yelled, and screamed, and yelled, and screamed.

I closed my eyes to accept the inevitable.

Seconds that felt like hours passed. I felt nothing.
