I shifted slightly on the comfortable sheets then opened my eyes. For the millionth time, I looked at the clock on the night table. It was 11:30pm.Ugh! Just get to 12:00 already!
I sighed and closed my eyes again. I was tired and sleepy but my anticipation wouldn't allow me to doze for more than 5 minutes at a time. I just wanted it to be Christmas already so I could get the sleep I needed.
Christmas had always been my favorite time of the year and, despite everything, I anticipated it with the same enthusiasm as always.
I was sleeping at Dimitri's. After what happened yesterday he refused to let me go back to my house, not that I would anyways.
I opened my eyes and looked at the clock again. 11:39.
Cursing under my breath, I closed my eyes again. This time I fell into a deep sleep.
Warmth enveloped my face and my eyes tightened at the presence of more light.
I opened them, then quickly shut them again as the sunlight penetrated them.
I had fallen asleep with the curtains open.
I slowly opened my eyes again and sat up, then looked at the clock. It was 8am.
I got off the bed and went to the bathroom to take a shower and wash my hair. When I was done, I got back to the room, combed my hair and got dressed.
I walked to the living room. Dimitri wasn't there.
I was starving! I went into the kitchen to make some breakfast.
I made coffee, some scrambled eggs and cereal for both Dimitri and I, and peeled two fresh oranges.
"Dimitri?" I called from the living room, not wanting his breakfast to get cold.
"I'm out here," came his reply. It was coming from beyond the front door.
I went and opened the door. He was seated on the steps, staring into space.
"Isn't it amazing?" He was saying.
"What?"
"This place," he answered. "I have never been to a place where it is this bright and sunny on Christmas."
"Yeah, it is," I said indifferently. "I made breakfast. Come eat it before it gets cold."
He rose and followed me to the kitchen, and we ate our meals in silence. When I was done I was fully energized and ready to have the best Christmas ever.
It was by far the worse Christmas ever! I hardly ever left the house, both out of fear and due to the fact that I didn't really have anywhere to go. I thought about going to see my family but decided against it for personal reasons.
Now it was already late afternoon and I was alone at the house. Dimitri had claimed he had some business to take care of and had left a little after breakfast.
I sat on the sofa in the living room reading a fashion magazine. I threw the magazine somewhere and turned on the TV. I turned off the TV and picked up the magazine again. I put down the magazine and went outside. I came back inside. I took a shower. I fell asleep. I woke up. I fell asleep again. I woke up again.
The day was just too boring, I couldn't take it. It was supposed to be Christmas, after all!
I got an idea. Maybe I should make Christmas dinner for Dimitri and I.
I went to the kitchen and looked inside the cupboards and fridge to see what I could cook.
I halfheartedly threw some things together and came up with what looked something like a meal.
