I hurriedly jumped up off the ground, ignoring the pain I felt. Dimitri was still asleep so I hurriedly limped my way towards my room, hoping he wouldn't see me. However did I fall asleep in his arms?"Where are you going?" I heard Dimitri asked when I was halfway out of the living room. Crap!
"To my room," I said.
"Why?"
"To launch a spaceship," I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes. "Why do you think?"
"You can't be going to sleep now," he said. "It's..." he looked at his watch as he got into a sitting position, "8:32. You should be making breakfast."
I couldn't help but laugh. "Don't tell me what I should be doing. I'm going to sleep. Don't be here when I wake up, kk?"
"Don't get scared and call me again, kk?" He said mockingly, with a smile.
"Whatever," I said, rolling my eyes as I went to my room.
I got in bed and closed my eyes. But as I closed them I was back on the sofa and in the arms of Dimitri Cromwell, pressed against his muscles and feeling his warm breath on my neck. My body melted at the thought and my lips involuntarily stretched into a smile.
I opened my eyes and mentally slapped myself. What the heck was wrong with me?
I closed my eyes again and this time I fell asleep.
I woke sometime later to the smell of something burning. Shocked, I jumped out of bed and rushed to the living room. It was foggy with smoke and there was smoke rushing through the adjoining door from the kitchen. I rushed through the door as the smell of burning food reached my nostrils.
Inside the kitchen was a disaster! A frying pan was on the stove with something black (too black) inside, and beside it was another one. It was impossible to see what was in it because a fire two times the size of the pot rose from within it. Dimitri stood about a yard away, tossing water at it from a bottle and watching calmly as the fire grew.
My kitchen! Panicking, I sprung into action. I grabbed the bottle from his hands and a towel from the holder. I used the water to dampen the towel and used it to rapidly hit at the flames. The fire got smaller, and smaller, until it completely vanished. I breathed a sigh of relief.
I backed away slowly and stopped when I reached the door. I stared in horror at the kitchen and at Dimitri.
"Look what you did to my kitchen!" I yelled. "What the heck were you doing!"
"Gee, I was just trying to make you breakfast. Relax," he said.
"Relax!" I could hardly believe he said that! "How the heck do you relax when a crazy ass man almost burnt your house down, huh?!!"
"Whoa, is this what you get for trying to make a woman some breakfast around here?" He said.
"No! This is what you get for almost burning someone's house down!"
"Calm down. I'll clean it up," he said.
"So you can flood my house this time?! I don't think so! Just get out! I'll clean it!" I said, holding the door open.
"Can I at least help you then?" He asked.
I took a couple of deep breaths. "It's ok," I said as calmly as I could. "I'll do it."
"Ok," he said and went through the door. I didn't move until I heard the front door close.
I looked once again at the messy, smoke-stained kitchen and sighed. Poor Dimitri, I thought. He probably hasn't cooked anything his entire life. It was so sweet of him to try and make me breakfast but did he really have to create such a mess?
I gathered all the pieces of food from the floor and the walls and discarded them, then I emptied the frying pans and placed them in the sink. I then scrubbed the walls and cleaned the furniture and the floor.
When I was satisfied with the kitchen, I went and cleaned the living room, the bedrooms, and the rest of the house. When I was done, I did the dishes and then some laundry.
I was beyond exhausted when I was done. I took a shower and got ready to go meet Flo at tastee's for breakfast.
When I got there she was talking to someone some guy I didn't know. When he saw me he said something to Flo, got up,and left.
"Hey," I barely said as I took his seat.
"What's up with you?" Flo said with a smile. "You look and sound like you've been carrying a horse or something."
"I wish," I said.
"That bad, huh," she said. "Tell me all about it."
I told her about all that happened since I've seen last.
"I so hate you," she said when I was finished. "You have a rich, handsome, sexy man as your neighbor who comes over and watches TV with you and tells you you're beautiful and sleep next to you and tries to cook breakfast for you and you're complaining that he messed up your kitchen? I wouldn't mind having him mess up my entire house! In fact, he can burn it to the ground if he wants, then he can buy me a new one. I so envy you. Can we exchange neighbors?"
I couldn't help but laugh. "Anytime," I said readily.
We ordered corn porridge and teacakes with coffee. We talked about different things as we ate.
When we were finished she said, "tell Dimitri hi for me. Tell him I'll be coming by to see him later."
"Whatever," I said and got up. "I'm going home. I'm tired."
We both left and I went home.
When I got there I was surprised to see about half a dozen men, including Dimitri, in my yard. A blue and grey van with the JPS logo was parked in the driveway. One of the men was descending the tall pole at the end of the driveway. When he reached the ground, he joined the other men and they loaded some tools into the van. They then got in and drove off.
I walked over to Dimitri. "What happened here?" I asked him.
"Well," he said. "I paid to reconnect your electricity. Just to say sorry for what happened this morning."
I could hardly believe him. "Why did you do that?" I asked him. "You should've asked me first."
"Because you deserve it," he said. "And I know that if I asked you would've refused. It's already done so you can kill me now if you want."
He was such a sweet gentleman. Without thinking, I rushed into his arms and threw my arms around his neck...
