"What's wrong?" Dimitri asked, coming up behind me."He's dead," I whispered, my voice barely audible above the sirens now wailing outside.
Dimitri crouched beside me, then used his finger to check for a pulse in Kevin's wrist. When he didn't find any, he withdrew his hand and rose to his feet.
Amanda sat bounded on the chair, staring wide eyed at us.
"At least now you don't have to worry about him," Dimitri said nonchalantly.
I was taken aback by his response and the calmness of his tone.
"He's dead," I reminded him. "Gone."
"I can see that."
"So why are you so calm?" I asked. "We could go to jail for this."
"First of all, there is no we in this. I killed him and I will take the fall for it. Second of all, it was self defence. Nobody's going to jail." He looked over at Amanda, then back at me. "Except maybe for her, if she was involved in kidnapping you."
I sighed. He was probably right, but I couldn't shake the worried feeling that had begun to form in my stomach.
The door was pushed open and about half a dozen people rushed towards us, two of them pushing a stretcher.
I rose and stood to the side as four men dressed in blue came forward with the stretcher. Without saying anything, two men stood on each side of kevin, then they all gently lifted his body off the ground, leaving a small puddle of blood behind. They lowered his body onto the stretcher and quickly wheeled it out of the room.
The other two people, two women, remained in the room with us.
"We need you two at the station for questioning," one of the women said. She looked about 30 and wore a tired expression.
"Okay," Dimitri said and I nodded.
"You're going to jail, bitch!"
We all turned our attentions to the source of the sound.
Amanda just never seems to shut up!
That uncomfortable moment when you just want to slap a bitch but you're in the presence of the police... Not that I would.
The lady's expression changed to confusion as she saw Amanda for the first time.
"You know what? I'm not even going to ask," she said lazily. "Just untie her and follow me. We'll talk about it at the station."
I looked at Dimitri. I wasn't going to untie her.
He gave me an "OK" look and walked over to her, then stooped to her level (no pun intended...maybe) and started working on the ropes. When she was free, she jumped up off the chair and started massaging her wrists.
The two women led the way out the door and we all followed.
Outside the door was a long, narrow corridor with closed doors on both sides. We followed the women to the end and took a right turn. We were greeted by another corridor, similar to the first one. Like before, we walked to the end, then took a right turn, only to find ourselves walking down yet another corridor.
What is this place?
At the end of this corridor was a flight of stairs leading downwards that seemed to extend into infinity.
We started down them. After what felt like hours, I could finally see the the end of the stairs. After descending the last few steps, we found ourselves in a large empty room. The women lead us to a large metal door at one end, then pushed it open.
Another long flight of stairs... Have some mercy!
However did the policewomen remember the way?
We headed down the stairs. Exhaustion and hunger bit at me. My head felt as if someone was using a hammer to insert giant nails in all parts of it. I had to hold on to the sides of the stairs to keep myself upright.
"Are you OK?" I heard Dimitri ask.
I nodded. It was all I could do.
For how long had I been there at the house? I didn't even know how long I had gone without eating.
Just as I was on the verge of passing out, Dimitri came up behind me and lifted me into his arms. I felt like 100 tonnes have been lifted off my shoulder...and my feet. I wrapped my arms around his neck as he carried me down the remainder of the stairs.
The stairs ended at a door. One of the women spun the knob and pushed it open.
Yes, sunlight!
We stepped out into a yard. I looked back at the building over Dimitri's shoulders. It was huge, and had grass growing from the bottom to about quarter way to the top.
We moved across the yard to a wide driveway. A police car was parked there. The two women entered the front of the car, one in the driver's seat and one in the passenger seat, then motioned for us to enter the back.
Dimitri opened one of the doors and lowered me onto the seat, then entered himself.
I could feel Amanda's eyes on me as she entered the car, but I kept my head straight, not paying any attention to her.
When the doors were all closed, the lady pulled out of the driveway and onto a dirt road. I tried to memorize the way in case, God forbid, I ever ended up there again and had to run away.
The dirt road ended onto a two way street. We turned left. Everyone was quiet along the way. I took in the trees and buildings that we passed, trying to store them in my memory.
We came upon another two way street, and again, we turned left.
"Uh, I think it's the other way," Dimitri said.
"Shhh...." The lady in the passenger seat lifted her finger to her lips.
As she lifted her hand, her shirt moved up about an inch. A dark round spot was revealed. No, a tattoo.
The same tatoo Kevin wore on the same spot.
In fact, the same tattoo all the members of his gang wore on that very same spot!
I nudged Dimitri in his side as my eyes remained fixed on the tattoo. He seemed to notice the worried expression on my face. He reached into his pocket.
"Looking for this?" The lady that was driving asked. She raised her hand.
Dimitri's gun was hanging from her pinky!

THE BILLIONAIRE DRAMA (BWWM)
RomanceI hurried to Dimitri's bedroom. I gasped as I saw the curtains by the window dancing freely in the wind and parts of what used to be a window lying on the ground in shatters. Dimitri was nowhere in sight. The beating of my heart escalated to bullet...
