"Every time you put on that suit you put people on danger. For every person you save there's going to be people you can't save. You better get used to that feeling of uselessness." Joe stated glancing at Dakota's angry face. "Some things you can't fight Barry. Some things you have to live with."
Joe walked out of the lab leaving Dakota and Barry alone.
"You should quit beating yourself up over this." Dakota crossed her arms and left Barry by himself.
STAR Labs Next Day
Barry walked into the treadmill room and sat beside Caitlyn.
"I'm sorry." He said in a low voice. "I didn't mean to scare you when I left yesterday."
"It's fine. I get it. It's just it was the last thing Ronnie said to me that night." Caitlyn looked away from Barry.
"My mother died fourteen years ago. I used to think the further away I got the less it would hurt. But some days the pain is worse than the day it happened." Barry had tears in his eyes.
"For so long I've been afraid of going down there." Caitlyn whispered.
"What if I went with you?" Barry asked.
Together Barry and Caitlyn headed down to the particle accelerator.
"He saved so many lives that day. No one will ever know what he did." Caitlyn murmured still staring at the door as she relived that horrible night.
"I do." Barry walked up to her. "He was a hero."
"I didn't want him to be." Caitlyn choked out. "I wanted him to be my husband."
Barry brought her into a hug.
"Hey Barry..." Dakota stopped in the doorway. "Cisco's got something for us."
Barry pulled away and gave her a small smile. He held out his arm and Dakota linked it with his.
"I'm sorry about last night..." Dakota murmured.
"No I'm sorry...I should've realized..." Barry stopped and grabbed the sides of Kota's neck.
He leaned down and kissed her softly.
"When you two are done we have more important matters to deal with." Wells anounnced into the intercom.
Dakota blushed and went into the Cortex, "Sorry Dr. Wells." Kota turned to the monitor. "This is a 3-D molecular model of the gas we found in your body."
"Hydrogen cyanide." Barry looked at the monitor, a questioning look in his eyes.
"What's interesting is that there's a sedative mixed in." Wells joined the group.
"Of course. See if anyone was executed at the time of the explosion. A sedative is given when they send someone on death row into the gas chamber." Barry explained.
Caitlyn looked up from the computer, "There was someone. Kyle Nimbus. He worked for the Dobinian crime family as a hitman. They turned on him and testified."
"He was being executed while the particle accelerator exploded. He must've been effected." Kota continued glancing at Barry.
"Records show that the execution was complete." Cisco argued.
"That's why there wasn't a match. They only have records of the living." Barry added. "Check to see who arrested him."
He went over to the computer and looked over the desk.
"Barry...the lead detective..."
