My alarm clock goes off and I instantly regret staying up so late last night watching their videos. I decide to wear my hot pink capris with my navy and white striped tee shirt. I throw on a gold necklace and matching sandals and my sophisticated looking watch that my aunt had given me for Christmas last year that I barely wear. I tease my hair to give it a nice bump in the back and pull it into an elegant yet cheery ponytail. I make my way downstairs and pack myself a modest lunch and scramble myself some eggs in the microwave. I bring my eggs upstairs and eat them while I straighten up my room. My mom throws a fit if my room isn’t perfect before I leave the house in the morning. I swipe on some deodorant and brush my teeth. I apply some light powder foundation, a bit of some shimmery light purple eye shadow, curl my lashes and sweep on some mascara. Most people don’t curl their lashes but it makes a major difference in my opinion. I gather up my stuff and take my dishes downstairs. I chuck my stuff into the bed of my truck not really caring that it should be inside and not chilling out in the bed. I place my dishes in the dishwasher and hop into my truck. Mom and Dad are both gone to work like I knew they would be. I turn the radio and make my way to school. I park the truck, lock it, and make my way to my locker. Good old 376. I look around to see if Michael is here yet and I see him enter the building. I decide to hurry up at my locker so I’m not in his way when he gets over here. “Morning Michael!” I chirp as he approaches. He looks beyond tired. “Morning Kaylee, how on earth are you this sunshiny in the morning?” he groans as he opens his locker. “You know, I have no idea. I stayed up late watching your covers on YouTube last night.” I say and he seems to perk up a little. “And what did you think?” he asks as he faces me. “I think I’m addicted.” I say honestly. He chuckles and looks at me in a funky way I don’t even know how to interpret. It’s like he is finally seeing me for the first time. “You are something special Kaylee” he says smiling at the ground. “Oh hey would you mind putting your number into my phone. Grace’s number is kind of lonely.” I say handing him my phone. He hands me his phone and I start to add myself as a contact. “Who is Grace? Is she somebody back home?” he asks curiously. “She is my friend from yoga class. She goes here. Her name is Grace Conway.” I explain. His face lights up and I’m guessing that name rings a pretty loud bell in his head. I mentioned his name to Grace yesterday and she didn’t seem to take any particular interest so I’m slightly confused. “Do you know her?” I ask trying to get a little clarification. “Yeah we had some classes last year that’s all” Michael says, but I’m sensing he is hiding something. I don’t press it any further and we exchange our phones. The bell rings and we wave to each other as we walk to our separate classes. “Hey Calum, Hey Ashton, Hey Violet” I say as I take the same seat that I had yesterday. Violet ignored me, Ashton smiled, and I turned to face Calum. “How was yoga?” he asked doing another one of his stupid yoga poses. I laugh and he joins in. “Same old same old.” I say before Mr. Marks starts class. We had an actual lesson today, but it wasn’t all that bad. Calum and I made faces back and forth during class so that helped the time go faster. After class I wave goodbye to Calum and he makes one last face back at me and I laugh as he walks away. I make my way to English to see Violet sitting on Ashton’s desk. I’m starting to get the feeling that they really are the make out couple but I can’t blame Violet. Ashton is pretty attractive. I take my seat and try not to stare at them, but I have nothing else to distract me. Soon enough the teacher starts class and Violet returns to her seat. Miss Jennings passes out some sort of assessment test. She says that it will help her identify where we all stand and what she needs to focus on in class. This seems like one of the methods she must have picked up in college seeing that she seemed fairly new to teaching. I start the test and Ashton is tapping his pencil on his desk the whole time. I easily ignore it in the beginning but as time goes on it keeps bothering me more and more. I can’t even hear myself think anymore. “Ashton!” I finally yell while glaring at him telling him to stop. I instantly regret this decision as the whole class looks over at me including Miss Jennings. I feel my face turning red and I see Violet giving me daggers. Miss Jennings walks over to me and places pink slips of paper on my desk and Ashton’s. “I will see you both in detention” she says before calmly walking away. Oh great! This is exactly what I want! Stupid detention! At least Ashton stopped tapping my desk. I finish my assessment test and turn it in right before the bell rings. Ashton hurries out of class and Violet scampers after him. I regret my excitement for this day.
