The next morning I wake up and have one new message from Grace. ‘Do you think this is cute enough?’ the message reads with a picture of her wearing denim shorts and Aztec looking tank top and some fringe sandals. We have different styles but that look suits her well. ‘Yes you get the Kaylee stamp of approval’ I text back to her before deciding what to wear myself. I decide on pink shorts and a flowing beige top with a cute hat and some gold sandals. I typically don’t wear hats, but this one was too cute to pass up. I send a picture of my outfit to Grace and start on my hair. I decide to leave it natural today which is stick straight. I turn my music up loud and brush my teeth and take care of other hygienic stuff. I put on a hint of makeup using mostly light browns and black mascara to make my eyes pop. I pack myself a lunch, grab a pop tart, and head to school. I see Grace in the parking lot and honk my horn at her to get her attention. She jumps at the sound of my horn and we both laugh as she walks towards my car. “Did you get my text?” I ask after I roll the window down. “Oh yeah sorry I forgot to reply” she says looking down at her phone. I hear my phone beep and I have one new message from Grace. ‘You look like poop’ “Thanks Grace I appreciate it!” I say sarcastically. “You know I’m just teasing. You always look gorgeous” she says smiling up at me. “Thanks Gracie” I say before we head off to enter the building together.

First and second period pass by fairly quickly. Violet is back and Ashton is acting like our whole heart to heart conversation about her had never happened, but it didn’t concern me. Then Spanish class rolls around and I have to see Luke. I say a quick prayer hoping that things won’t be too awkward. “Hey Luke” I say as we get into our pairs to work on the project. “Hey Captain” he says. So good so far. I giggle a little and take out my project stuff. “So are you planning on coming over today for band practice?” he asks. “I haven’t decided yet. Today is the day you upload right.” I reply. “Yeah, we don’t really do much on Thursdays. We mostly just watch movies and eat food.” He confesses. “Well that does sound entertaining” I say trying to stretch it out. “We might even mess around on our instruments some if you are lucky.” He adds. “Count me in! You had me at food. I was just hoping you would throw some more toppings on the pizza” I say hoping he gets the metaphor I’m going for. “Food is my favorite.” He says as his eyes begin to gloss over. We talk about the most random stuff for the rest of class and once the bell rings I make my way to my locker. I find Grace standing there waiting for me. “My stomach is in freaking knots!” she says as I swing my locker open. “It’s not like an awkward blind date or anything. Plus you have me” I say reassuring her. “Yeah I guess you are right” she says before we make our way to the cafeteria.
