Spanish class rolls around and I’m pretty sure this is going to end up being my favorite class. I walk in and Calum runs over to me and hugs me. That was a bit unexpected but he gives nice hugs. It was a short one and he and I go to where the other boys are. “Hey Kay” Michael says looking up from his cell phone. Luke smiles at me like I just made his day or something. “So how has your day been so far?” Michael asks casually. I explain to them what had happened in English class with Ashton. “Ouch” Luke comments at the end of my story. I shrug and sigh and the boys join me. They seem to actually care about me. I mean I would be lying if I said that I completely let my guard down around them, but I am definitely warming up to them. In Spanish class we are told we have a group project to do and to pair up into twos. After a bit of rock paper scissors the groups ended up as Michael and Calum, and me and Luke. I barely knew Luke and he didn’t seem to say much, but maybe this will be good for us to get to know each other. We went over the rubric together and once we were done we all headed to lunch. I passed Grace in the hall and she waved to me sweetly as the boys and I made our way to the cafeteria. We sat in the same arrangement as we did yesterday and I zoned out for the first ten minutes while they talked about guy stuff. I am actually a very girly girl so I am shocked that I made friends with guys. “Kaylee!” Calum says snapping a finger in my face. “Yes” I reply sweetly knowing that they think I’m a total idiot. “Michael just told us about your new addiction” Luke explains clueing me in. “Yeah thanks to you guys and your amazing music I barely got to sleep last night.” I say throwing a grape at each of them. They threw them back and it escalated into a mini food fight. It finally ended when Michael nailed me in the eye with a pretzel. My eye started watering like crazy. “Mikey you made her cry!” Calum said hitting Michael on the arm. “No I’m fine. My eye is just watering. I’m going to go to the bathroom and make sure everything is okay.” I say as I get up from the table. I enter the bathroom and start searching my eye for any pretzel dust and try to salvage my eye makeup. This day is going perfect! Just then Grace comes out of the bathroom stall. “What happened to you?” she asks coming over to me. “Michael threw a pretzel into my eye” I say sounding annoyed. She helps me clean up the makeup smudges and holds out her tube of mascara to me. “You are a lifesaver!” I say as I take the mascara and make my eye makeup look even. I hand her the tube and give her a hug. The good Lord knows I need one right now. “So I think it’s about time I met these friends of yours” she says as we walk out of the bathroom together. I lead her over to our table and she does not look the least bit nervous. I wish I had her ever present confidence. “Hey guys this is my friend Grace” I say as we arrive at the table. She gives them a smile and a wave. I take my seat next to Luke and she sits on the other side of me. “This is Luke, Michael, and Calum” I say gesturing to each one as I said their name. “Oh I know Michael” she said to me as she gave Michael a smile. I am so calling her tonight to get the story. “Grace is in my yoga class” I explain to the boys. They do their wannabe yoga poses and even Luke joins in this time. Grace and I both laugh and each of the boys’ faces light up with satisfaction at having made us laugh so hard. “Well I will see you all later” Grace says as she walks off to return to her girls. They are all a grade above us, but that never seemed to bother Grace.
