She drives me back to my car and in our separate cars we both drive back to my house. She follows me because she has only been there twice before and doesn’t know the way too well. I park my car in the garage and she parks in the driveway. “Mom I’m home!” I shout as we enter the house. “Hey Kay dinner will be ready soon.” She calls from the kitchen. I lead Grace into the kitchen with me. “Did you get my text?” I ask after a quick hug. “No sorry I haven’t checked my phone recently.” She replies hoping I won’t get mad. “Can Grace stay for dinner? We were planning on doing some homework together.” I ask hoping she won’t say no and things get all awkward. “Sure thing. How do you already have homework on the first day of school?” she asks as she stirs something on the stove. “Times have changed Mom. We always have homework.” I reply before leaving to go to my room. I sling my stuff on the floor beside my desk and plop down on my bed. Grace does the same thing and we both start giggling. We both just lay there for a second and my thoughts go back to Michael, Calum, and Luke. I don’t even know what to think about them. They are so effortless in their own way, but I still don’t know them that well. “So what should we start on first?” Grace asks snapping me out of my thoughts. “How about Math?” I say just going with the first subject I thought of. We pull out our math homework and finish right before Mother calls us down for dinner. Mom always liked Grace because she was well behaved and I never got into any trouble when I was with her. I mean she has me doing homework for crying out loud. We have a nice dinner of chicken Alfredo and Grace and I head upstairs to finish our homework. After a while we finish everything without getting off track more than three or four times. Grace heads home and I am left alone with my thoughts. I think back to lunch and how I found out that Luke, Calum, and Michael were a band. Then I decide to see if I can find any of their covers on YouTube. They said their name was Five Seconds of Summer right? After a bit of searching I found them. WOW! They are really good especially Luke! I watched their videos over and over until it got pretty late. I tore myself from my laptop and showered and went to bed. I have this bizarre feeling that I am actually excited for school. Maybe I’m getting sick.
