“Kaylee wake up, you slept through the entire class.” Calum says poking me. I lift my head up and slowly stand up. “Thanks Cal” I say before he gives me a thumb up and walks out the door. “Gosh Kaylee you look awful” Ashton says as we walk to English class. “Yeah I know. I fell asleep during movie night at Luke’s and didn’t get home until a bit past twelve thirty. I didn’t even get any of my homework done.” I explain sleepily. “Ouch! Well at least today is Friday and you can catch up on your sleep this weekend.” Ashton says focusing on the bright side. “Yeah I guess. Where is Violet?” I ask seeing that he usually walks to class with her. “She had to go to the bathroom. Probably to fix her makeup.” He says not really caring. I take my seat and try the whole class period to stay awake. Then in Spanish class I sleep like a baby knowing that Luke will be there to cover for me if Ms. Walters walks over. During lunch Calum lets me copy his homework for history class because that was the only bit of homework I didn’t get to finish in study hall yesterday. The rest of the school day drags on and Mr. Sanchez doesn’t even take up the history homework that I copied off of Calum, but I do get to sleep in study hall.

After school, I grab my Vera Bradley bag that I’m bringing to the lake from Luke’s car and we all pile in the back of Calum’s mom’s car. Calum’s dad is driving with his mother in the front seat. Then the next row back is Luke and Calum and me and Michael in the very back. Luke and Calum talk about sports and musicians the whole way up there. Michael listens to music on his phone while I take a nap resting my feet in Michael’s lap. After about an hour we arrive at the Hood’s lake house. “Our bedroom is the farthest one on the left. There are two twin beds right across from us and just before that there is a room with a queen bed. There are extra air mattresses pillows and blankets in the closet over there. Let me know if you need anything.” Mrs. Hood says to us before she leaves to go for a walk with Mr. Hood. “So what do you want to do?” Calum asks plopping down on a big comfy sofa. I take a seat next to him and Michael and Luke do the same. “What is there to do?” I ask wanting to know all of the options. “Well we could pull out the jet skis and take them on the lake or go tubing behind my neighbor’s boat if we ask nicely.” Calum suggests. “Or we could do something inside if that is a little more your speed.” Luke suggests poking a little fun at me. “I say we all change into our swimsuits and take the jet skis out” I suggest. “I’m cool with that” Luke says. “I call riding with Luke!” Michael says giving Luke a big hug from behind. “Get off me you big loaf” Luke says pushing Michael off of him. “Loaf?” I ask wondering what in the world he meant by that, but he never explained.

We all had on our swimsuits and we went down to the dock where two jet skis were just waiting for us to use them. Luke grabbed one with Michael on it right behind him and I got on the back of the one with Calum on it. We messed around a bit as Luke and Calum warmed up to driving them. “How about a race?” Michael said once the two jet skis were close enough for us all to talk. “I’m game. How about first one to that dock with the big pontoon boat and back wins.” Calum says as we make our jet skis even. “One, two, three!” I yell before we race off. I try to compress my body tightly onto the jet ski because it will make us go faster and because I am less likely to fall off that way. We make it to the dock with the pontoon boat a second or two after Luke and Michael and Calum whips around to go back. I look back and apparently Michael fell off the back as Luke whipped around. I start laughing and we beat Luke and Michael by a longshot because Luke had to stop to let Michael back on. “You know mate if I didn’t know you were so competitive I would have thought that you did that on purpose.” Michael says to Luke once they reach the finish. Luke gives an evil smile before Michael plunges his head underwater. Luke comes up gasping for air. “Next time warn a guy” Luke says coughing up water. “Now you know how it feels” Michael says satisfied with his revenge. Calum let me drive the jet ski for a little bit while he went back inside to go to the bathroom. I drove around in circles and figure eights and in the wake of a big boat. Then we put the jet skis back at the dock and went inside to get some food. Mr. Hood was grilling hot dogs for us and Mrs. Hood cut up a watermelon. We each grabbed a handful of barbecue chips and some of the freshly cut watermelon before heading back outside to get our hotdogs. We sat on the ground in a circle and ate while still in our swimsuits. The watermelon was so juicy that when I went to bite into it all the juice dribbled down my face, neck, and chest until it was stopped by bikini top. My bathing suit was a cute seersucker bandeau bikini and the top had a gigantic bow across it. This was the swimsuit that my friend Anna picked out for me last spring break. I grabbed a napkin and awkwardly wiped up the watermelon dribble. The boys just laughed at me. “Oh shut up!” I said throwing my napkin at Michael. He threw it back and it landed right on top of my coke. They didn’t have diet coke so I just settled for regular coke. “So later tonight we can roast marshmallows. We brought stuff for s’mores.” Calum said excitedly. Luke started whooping and I joined in followed by the other two. “You know before we roast the marshmallows we could watch the third Harry Potter movie.” I suggested. The boys liked that idea and after dinner we all went inside to change out of our swimsuits. I throw on my black sports bra, little mermaid (Ariel) tank top and a pair of black athletic shorts.
