Gotta Get Out (a five seconds of summer story)

Chapter 28

I find myself getting a cute pink cast for my leg and a few bandages for the palms of my hands where I cut myself trying to catch myself when I fell back. “How are you doing?” Mrs. Hood asks me when I come out. “Fine, they gave me some pain relievers. Sorry for spoiling the rest of your lake trip.” I say before the boys walk in. They all had ice cream cones in their hands. “Oh, it’s not a problem at all. You just get to feeling better.” She says before the boys crowd around me and she takes her seat. “Hey guys” I say as they engulf me in a group hug. As they step back I lose my balance and start to fall back. Luke catches my back and stands me back up again and I give him a smile. He is always there for me especially when I need him. “I see you guys went out and got ice cream without me.” I say sitting down. “Well you were a little busy” Luke says taking a seat next to me. “I was in the emergency room!” I say before rubbing Luke’s ice cream cone in his nose. I start giggling and he just makes a face at me. I take my phone out and snap a picture of it. “This is going on instagram” I say right before posting it. “Here you can have the rest of mine. I don’t exactly want it anymore.” Luke says before smashing the ice cream cone into my nose. “Luke!” I squeal as all the boys laugh. He pulls out his phone and takes a picture of me. “This is going on instagram” he says sticking his tongue out at me. Calum hands me a few napkins and I clean my face off and Luke does the same. My mother walks in and makes sure I’m okay and I tell her that I’m doing just fine and that the boys are doing a good job taking care of me. “It’s just a broken leg. I’m fine Mom really” I say as she gets a little worked up. “Hey Kaylee my mom is going back up to the lake house to get all our stuff so I will drop it by your house when we get back.” Calum says interrupting my mother’s worry. “Oh hey Cal put your number in my phone. I don’t think I ever got it.” I say holding my phone out to him. I can’t believe I went to his lake house and didn’t even have his phone number. He hands my phone back to me, gives me a hug and leaves with his mother. “Luke we never sang campfire songs like you promised.” I said realizing that we forgot to do that last night. “Well how about when Calum brings our stuff back, we make up for it.” Luke says. “Okay sounds good, but how about this time we all go back to my house because I would much rather hobble around a house that I’m familiar with.” I say and Michael and Luke agree.

          My mother drives us back to my house and fixes lunch before she returns to the candle shop. My family owns a candle shop by the way. “So what do you guys want to do?” I ask once we finish a wonderful lunch of sub sandwiches. “What is there to do over here?” Michael asks as he pokes through the stuff in my family room. “Well I have a TV and movies and my laptop and normal stuff that people own.” I say kind of confused by the question. “We could watch a movie. I’m a little tired.” Luke says yawning and stretching out on my couch. “Yeah I could go for a movie right now.” I say as I flop down on my couch. My crutches fall back and hit me in the face before I can set them down properly. “Just find anything you want to watch and put it in. I’m warning you though; my collection is mostly chick flicks.” I say to Michael pointing him to where we keep the movies. “Luke come help me pick something out” Michael calls over to Luke who is sprawled out on my couch. Luke moans then gets up and walks over to Michael. “You know I’ve never seen this movie” Luke says holding Titanic. “What!” I say almost falling off the couch. “You have never seen Titanic!” I say straightening myself out. He just shrugs and nods. “Okay we are watching that one” I say before Michael pops the disc in. I shoot a text to Grace telling her that I broke my leg and that she should come over and watch a movie with us. I’m not sure if she is still mad at me or what, but at this point I’m just going to act like she isn’t. Luke and Michael sit on either side of me and the movie starts. Once the movie gets to the part about Jack and Rose I hear my doorbell. I start to get up, but Michael stops me and goes to answer it. “Hey Michael, look who I found.” Calum says walking in with all of my stuff from the lake trip with Grace close behind. “Grace!” I yell from the couch and wave my hands for her to come over to me. “Hey I got your text about your leg. What happened?” she asks as she sits on my coffee table. “We were hiking up a waterfall and I fell and this is what happened.” I explain pointing to my leg. “Ouch! What are you watching? Oh Titanic! I love that movie!” she says before squeezing in between me and Michael. “So are we cool?” I ask quietly. “Yeah I guess so” she says smiling at me. “Yo Calum come join us” I call to Calum who just finished bringing in the last of my stuff. “I would love to, but my mum needs help with some stuff so I can’t stay.” He says before giving me a hug and leaving.
