Gotta Get Out (a five seconds of summer story)

Chapter 20

I wake up to my alarm clock feeling exhausted. Oh crap! I forgot to pack my stuff for the lake trip this weekend. I throw some shorts, tank tops, underwear, a swimsuit and some other sleepover crap into a big Vera Bradley bag. It was a present from my aunt. She always buys me nice things. I take a quick shower and throw my hair up into a messy bun. Crap! I don’t have my truck. I left it at Luke’s and my mother isn’t home to drive me to school. I grab my phone and call up Luke. “Hello” he says sleepily into the phone. “Hey can I have a ride to school this morning? I left my truck at your place last night.” I say throwing on an oversized pink and gray striped shirt. “Yeah sure anything. Mum made extra muffins. Do you want me to bring you some?” Luke asks. “Oh thank heavens! Luke Hemmings you are a life saver! I would love some muffins!” I say expressing my gratitude to him over the phone. “Okay see you in ten” he says laughing before hanging up. I pull on my favorite old blue jeans and my gray Keds. I brush my teeth, roll on some deodorant, spray a bit of bath and body works perfume on myself and rush downstairs to pack a lunch. I finish packing my lunch just as I see Luke pull into my driveway. I rush upstairs and grab my stuff and race back downstairs and out to Luke’s car. “Hey Harry Potter” he says jokingly as I hop into the front seat next to him. “Ha ha you are absolutely hilarious.” I say sarcastically. “Here are the muffins” Luke says pointing to a basket on the floor. I reach in and grab one and take a huge bite out of it. “Oh this is so good!” I say with a mouth full of muffin as Luke pulls out of my driveway. Luke smiles and I finish my muffin. I grab my makeup out of my Vera Bradley bag and apply some concealer and mascara using the mirror in Luke’s car. “I guess somebody was running late this morning” Luke says eyeing me. “You have no idea” I reply.

          Once we get to school Luke walks me to my locker where Michael is talking to Calum. “Hey looks like everybody is here!” Calum says acknowledging me and Luke. Michael turns around and gives the two of us a smile. “So I guess sleeping beauty is awake” Michael says laughing. “I bet it would take more than a kiss to wake her up. She was sleeping like a rock.” Calum says. “I finally got her up at about twelve thirty. Then my mum drove her home because it was past curfew.” Luke explains. “So this morning Luke drove me to school because my truck was at his place.” I say secretly missing the old piece of metal. Michael laughed at me. “Hey I got muffins this morning so the joke is on you.” I say rubbing it in his face. “Luke you gave her a muffin and not me” Michael whines. “Well I brought enough for all us to each have one, but Kaylee ate them all.” Luke says blaming me. “Hey I was hungry and they were right there” I say defending myself. Calum and I head off to class and once my butt hits the seat my lack of sleep catches up with me. I catch the first five minutes of class and then all I can see is the back of my eyelids.
