It had been six weeks since I had broken my leg and now I was ready to get this stupid cast off of me. They took the cast off of my leg and it was all squishy because I hadn’t been exercising my leg muscle for a while. Mother drove me over to Luke’s house for band practice before she went back to work. Luke had been driving me to school every morning because he was the closest to me and I was unable to drive with a broken leg. I had to skip yoga class every week and Grace had moved up a level without me. “Hey guys look who can walk again” I say entering the basement after Luke’s mother let me in the house. “Hey where is Michael?” I ask seeing only Calum and Luke. “He ditched band practice to go hang out with Grace.” Luke explained. They had been spending a bit of time together and they weren’t official yet, but they were definitely flirty friends. “So what is the cover this week?” I ask. I had not been at band practice for a while because I was behind in history class. Australian history didn’t come very natural to me considering I am American. “Forever my Father” Calum says. I grab the video camera and take my usual seat. I press record and they do their thing. “Good job guys” I say after they finish. I go over to them and show them the video. They nod in approval. “Have you guys ever thought about having a drummer? I think it would add to your sound.” I say putting the video camera up. “It would be nice and I think it would definitely add, but unless you or Grace plays the drums I don’t exactly think we know anybody that would join our band.” Luke says putting his guitar up. I was thinking about Ashton. He plays the drums and he is really cool. I think the boys would like him, but I decide not to say anything to Luke about him. “So is that it for the rest of the day?” I ask looking at Calum and Luke. “Yeah I guess so” Calum says standing up. “Well then how about we do something fun? I just got my cast off so we could go swimming.” I suggest. “Don’t you think it will be a little too cold for swimming?” Calum says. “Yeah true. How about we go ice skating.” I suggest. “That could work. Just let me grab a coat. Cal do you want to borrow one of mine?” Luke asked making his way to the stairs. “Yeah” Calum said. “Can I borrow one too Luke” I said before he nodded and slipped up the stairs. Luke brings back hoodies for all of us and I slip on the grey one he handed me. It smelled so good just like him. Luke drove us to the Forum and we all got our skates. “Have you guys ever ice skated before?” I asked them. “Yeah” Luke replies and Calum shakes his head. I make my way out onto the ice and it takes me a minute to get warmed up. Calum makes his way along the edge of the rink and Luke catches up with me. I smile up at him and he smiles back down at me. Luke grabs my hand and we skate together lapping Calum. “Luke can I ask you something?” I say as we skate along. “What’s on your mind?” he replies as I proceed to ask him my question. “Luke do you like me?” I ask looking up at him. “Of course I like you. You are one of my best friends.” Luke says looking a little puzzled. “No I mean do you like like me?” I ask looking at our hands. “Kaylee we aren’t nine. Isn’t like liking somebody a little juvenile?” He says avoiding answering. “Well you didn’t get what I meant when I just said like. Now answer my question.” I say laughing a little. “Well I would be lying if I said I didn’t, but you don’t like me that way so there isn’t much more to it.” Luke says giving me a shy smile. “Thanks for telling me.” I say looking into his eyes. We skated over to Calum who was catching on to the whole ice skating thing. “Having fun?” he asked us once we matched speed with him. “Loads. You?” I say taking in his skating struggle. “Oh I’m doing dandy. There are seven year olds who could skate circles around me.” He says looking around at some of the people here. “If you bend your knees and lean into it a bit it helps.” Luke says showing Calum how to properly ice skate. Calum tries it and he is able to speed up a bit. “Hey Luke race me!” I say looking over at him. “Oh you are on Princess!” he says before we both take off. I would probably be a lot better if I hadn’t just gotten my cast off, but I wasn’t too bad. Luke beat me. “Ha take that!” He said coming to a stop. “I want a rematch in a few weeks once I’ve built my leg muscle back up” I say. “Fine, but you can’t beat the champion!” Luke says ruffling my hair. “Lukeeeee” I whine while messing up his hair. “Now we are even.” I say smiling up at him. We finish up skating and Luke drops me off at my house.
