Enjoy!!! And thanks for reading:
We all sat there, our chins resting in our hands and our elbows plopped on the ancient poker table we were sitting around. The eight of us waited impatiently, seeing if our dreams could come true.
“I can’t take it anymore!” I whined as I pulled at my long dark wavy hair. “What’s taking her so long?!”
“Relax Lucy!” One of my best friends, Mason Walton, told me. “She’s almost done!”
“She’s in another room Mason,” Harlow Bruce, another best friend of mine accompanying me at the poker table pointed out. “Do you have powers to tell what people are doing or something?”
“I’m just so excited!” I admitted, hopping up and down in my seat. “Imagine if we really had enough? Like… I feel so close to success!”
Just then, the bathroom door swung open, and out came another best friend of mine, McKinley Peet. She had a huge stack of me and all of my friends combined money in her hand. She had no expression on her newly tanned face. Her blue eyes completely calm. She had gone in the bathroom around twenty minutes ago to count all the money up. She had told us that she had to count the money in silence in the bathroom. Our constant whining was to horrible and loud for her to be able to concentrate.
“So?!” The most excited person out of our group, Peyton Roman-Wolfe wondered as she jumped out of her chair. “How much do we have?!”
McKinley stayed still, looking at us calmly. She almost seemed as if she were a statue or something.
“Answer us!” Maven Leighton begged, throwing her arms in the air, making her perfectly straightened and layered dark brown hair fly around a little bit.
“Yeah!” Jonah Saint-Laurent, the impatient one of the crowd ordered with a whiny tone in his voice. “We can’t wait here all day Mac! Hurry up!”
McKinley was still quiet. She had always been shy, being the youngest out of all of us at the young age of seventeen. However, once she became best friends with me and my huge group of friends, she learnt to speak up more often. It would have been real great if she would do that right now.
Jessie Brundon, who was very similar to Jonah when it came to patience, grabbed McKinley by the shoulders and shook her. “Do we have enough money for the apartment?!”
It was the question the eight of us wanted to ask the smartest of our group. It’s all we wanted to know.
We had worked incredibly hard so we could get a positive answer. My friends and I had just graduated from high school, which was right next to the elementary school that we all met at. Now that we were all eighteen, with the exception of McKinley who had skipped grades four and nine, we wanted to get away from our parents and buy an apartment that we could all share. We had worked our butts off, trying to earn the money for the one apartment that we had in mind. Since the ending of my senior year, I had been taking orders at the local Taco Bell and trying to make as much cash as I could.
And now it was time to see if we had worked hard enough to get the three room apartment on the eleventh floor at Oak Street Avenue.
McKinley took a deep shaky breath. “You guys might want to sit down,” She started, motioning towards Jessie, Jonah and Peyton who were all still standing up with slightly crazed looks on their faces.
