“Goldilocks,” I whispered in his ear with a giggle. “That’s your new nickname. Goldilocks.”

Mason furrowed his eyebrows and groaned. In the past month, his hair had grown to a very long length, causing the ends of his blond locks to curl. If he were wearing a dress, he could be considered a male version of Goldilocks. “Lucy, can you do a favor for me?” He asked.

“Yeah, what is it?” I replied.

His face got dull. “Shut up.”

Jonah, who was on the other side of me, laughed. The rest of the group was sprawled on the ground joined in on his laughter, while Goldilocks just got redder by the second by the embarrassment I had created.

Just then, the front door swung open and in came Lucas and his best friend/roommate, Jared Huvel, walked in. Lucas had been staying in town for a whole month now, visiting us every day. He was like another roommate of ours now, he could just walk in whenever he liked. So could Jared, he was an awesome guy as well. Funny like heck.

“Hello children!” Lucas called out as he plopped down on the floor in front of me. Jared sat his butt down next to his friend.

“Sup bro,” I said to him, patting his head.

“Hey, do you guys have a basketball?” Jared asked.

“Yeah, in the closet, why?” McKinley responded.

“Have you ever played basketball in the winter?” He questioned, his deep big brown eyes wide that she even had to bring the question up.

  “No,” Harlow replied for her.

“It’s epic!” Lucas announced. “You guys gotta play. Let’s go now! It’ll be a blast!”

My group of friends shrugged our shoulders and then got up. We all put our coats on and Drew went to get the basketball. We then all walked out of the apartment and towards Jared’s building, which was where Lucas was staying.

In Jared’s buildings backyard there was a basketball court, which they shoveled snow off of so it was still usable in the winter. We all shuffled on to the icy court and were soon all standing in the middle of it.

“We need teams,” Jared pointed out. “I’ll be team captain number one, Lucas will be number two.”

It was settled. Each guy would choose who they wanted on their team. In the end I was on my brother’s team with Peyton, Jonah, Drew, and McKinley. Leaving Mason, Maven, Harlow, Jessie and Jared on the other team. We then started the game.

The guys were right, playing basketball in winter was really better than the normal summer game. It was fun trying to maneuver with our big thick coats on, trying to dodge the ice so we wouldn’t slip and fall on our heads. Plus, we couldn’t sweat since it was below zero and tiny snowflakes were slowly falling from the gray cloudy sky.

So far, we had finished one round of the game. The score was two to four at the moment for Jared’s team. Right now Lucas had the ball, he dribbled it and then he gave a great pass to McKinley. She had never been the sporty one, so she flinched when the ball came towards her, making it hit her elbow and bounce in the middle of the court.

Harlow and Peyton both gave each other deadly in a playful way looks as they both went for the ball, running, and almost slipping, at full speed.

“I’m gonna get it!” Peyton called out as she waved her hand in front of the orange sphere.

“Not in this lifetime,” Harlow told her with a smirk as she got the ball and dribbled it from the court.

I spot Drew get a smile on his face when he realized Peyton had snuck a look at him. Just by looking at the guy you could tell he knew this was his chance to impress her. He ran towards the ball, snatched it from Harlow in one quick motion and dribbled across the court. He threw the ball and it landed right in the basket.
