Maven sighed as she played with the chord of the beige telephone.
“What’s wrong Maven?” I asked her as I sat down on the couch next to her.
Her brown eyes looked into mine. “Falon promised to call me but he hasn’t yet!” She complained.
Falon was that guy that she met at the Blue Day concert. They had really seemed to like each other, so they exchanged phone numbers. That was a whole week ago though and he still hadn’t called her back.
“Maybe you just call him?” I asked her as I motioned towards the piece of paper on the counter with his number on it.
“Won’t that make me seem desperate?”
I shook my head. “Calling someone doesn’t make you desperate. And who knows, maybe he’s waiting for you to call him anyways! He could’ve lost your number or something!”
Her face lightened up a little bit as she grabbed the number from the table. “You’re right!” She dialed his number and put the phone to her ear.
“Hey!... It’s me, Maven… what do you mean you don’t remember me?... from the concert!... oh… I see… b-but… ah… okay,” She said into the phone, pausing a few times to let Falon speak. She then hung up.
“Well?” I said.
She sighed once more. “I didn’t even ask him if he wanted to go out, but he told me he’s not looking for a relationship.”
I clenched my fists. I hated jerks.
She slid off the couch, now only her head was touching the cushion. “Everyone has someone besides me!” She cried. “You guys are all so in love but no one loves me!”
I truly did feel bad for Maven because I realized awhile ago that she had no one love wise. I never brought the subject up though because then it’d just be weird and it’d most likely make her feel like utter crap.
“Maybe you should go on a dating website or something,” I offered.
She gave me an expressionless look. “The guys on those websites are never like who they say they are. They all end up being idiots.”
“How do you know?” I asked her as I crossed my arms over my chest.
“Trust me, I’ve tried it.”
Before I could retort, the door swung open and all my friends walked into the apartment. They had all been outside moments before, but now there were here with huge smiles on their faces. Well, besides Drew, he was practically glaring at Zack who was here with them today.
“You won’t guess what just happened!” Peyton squealed.
“What happened?!” I asked with a dramatic excited voice so it could match hers.
Zack held up his hand. He was holding up what looked like twelve plane tickets. “I got all of us tickets to Myrtle Beach!”
I looked at Maven. We both had huge smiles on our faces now too.

One week later, my main group of friends, my brother, Jared and Zack were boarding the twelve o’clock plane to Myrtle Beach. I had to admit, even though the beach scene wasn’t exactly my thing, I really was excited for this. I hadn’t been on vacation in ages.
As I sat down in my seat, I could finally feel my body relax. We had been up all morning doing last minute packing, running around the airport and making sure we all got our bags on the right plane. It was time for me to let myself just chill.
