As I hugged Jonah a little tighter, I kissed his cheek. We had been cuddling on the couch for the past fifteen minutes. Our hearts still raced since being together was still so new for the both of us.
A loud, dramatic sigh came from the floor. We both stopped looking at each other and my eyes met Harlow’s. She had been watching us ever since we went into the living room.
“You guys are so lucky,” She told us sadly. “I’ll never find someone.”
I let go of Jonah and slid on to the floor next to my friend. “Don’t say that!” I ordered. “You’re only nineteen. You still have your whole life ahead of you to find Mr. Perfect!”
She looked at me through her dirty blonde bangs that were now covering her hazel eyes since she hadn’t gotten a haircut in quite awhile. “You’re nineteen and look!” She motioned towards Jonah, who was still sitting down on the couch. “You found what seems like your perfect match.”
I put a hand on her shoulder. “That’s just because I got lucky quickly. And you’re gonna have your lucky shot before you know it.”
She sighed once more. “How do you know?” She blew her bangs out of her eyes, but they just fell back. “You and Jonah have each other. Mason and Jessie are together. Peyton has Zack. And McKinley is with-” She slapped her hands over her mouth once she realized what she said.
“What?!” I practically yelled. “Since when is McKinley with someone?!”
Harlow’s face flushed and she looked as if she wanted to shrink into a miniature version of herself so she could just hide from everyone. “Forget what I just said, alright?” She managed to croak out.
Obviously I wouldn’t forget, but I replied with a small, “Fine.”
“Anyway,” She continued her face back to normal, as if nothing extreme had just happened. “Almost everyone has someone, and I have no one!”
“You have your friends,” Jonah joined in.
Harlow practically glared at him. “Can I date my friends?” She growled.
“Well, I tried dating one of my friends and look what happened!” I scooted closer to Jonah and took his hand, giving him a big grin. “It worked out perfectly!”
She raised an eyebrow. “So you’re saying that I can either make Jonah or Mason cheat on their girlfriends or I got out with Drew?” She gagged dramatically on purpose. “No thanks!”
I let go of Jonah’s hand and made my way towards Harlow again. “They’re not your only guy friends, you have more.”
“Like?” She wondered.
“Well…” I thought for a second in my head, until the perfect guy came into mind. “Who was that guy that you used to hang out in the ninth grade?”
“Jay?” She sounded surprised. Her face then went into thought. “Well… he was really sweet and kind of cute. But I haven’t spoken with him since I was a teenager!”
“Facebook sound familiar?” Jonah wondered.
Harlow practically jumped up from the floor. “You’re right!” She ran into the girl’s room and came out with her laptop. She sat back down and opened it up. It was already turned so all she had to do was go on the internet.
She searched up Facebook, logged in, revealing her profile. Her profile picture was a recent picture of our group of friends, joined by Jared, Lucas and Zack. We were all somewhere in the tree house, some peeking out from the windows, others on the stairs. Mason was on the swing, making a funny face. The picture was all of our profile pictures. It was taken by Mandy Little, who we soon found out was a pretty good photographer.
