Chapter 10:Who he really is

Third pov
Ace watched her fall to the ground, the sea stone poles further stabbing into Itami's body.

"ITAMIIIIIIIII!!!!"Ace screamed

The rest was a blur to Ace, all he could remember was that he was crying for Itami, and then he was taken back to the Moby Dick.

The doctors on board the ship rushed Itami to the medical room on board. Everyone was rushing around, doing everything they could to keep Itami alive. The doctors had to be extra careful with the sea stone poles that were stabbed through Itami's body, as it could further damage any part of her body.

Meanwhile, out on deck, Ace was crying silent tears. He didn't let out a single sob while he sat there. Ace was traumatized. He sat there, trying to get his head around that Itami, the first woman that he's ever loved, could be dying right at this moment. If that were to ever happen, he'd have a mental breakdown.

He started to see images of her in his brain, smiling & laughing, of her dying in his arms. He could see her staring up at him, with the same emerald green eyes he fell for, the light inside slowly flickering out.

"No....that can't happen.."Ace whimpered

"ACE!"

Ace jumped, and saw that Marco & Thatch were in front of him, shaking him around.

"We were starting yo get worried about you! We've been sitting here for 10 minutes trying to wake you up, but you keep on staring off into space."Thatch said
"I-is she fine?! Is she alive?! Is she-"
"Woah woah, slow down, yoi. She's going to be okay, she's alive...but that pole had only just missed her heart, yoi. But any closer, then she really would've died, yoi."Marco said

And for the first time, Marco & Thatch saw Ace cry in happiness. Ace was so relieved that Itami is still alive with him.

'She's alive! She's alive!'

"Can we see her?"Ace asked frantically
"No not yet. The doctors are still operating on her. All we know now is, is that she's alive, and that they've taken those weird poles out of her."Thatch said
"They're trying to fix her up again, yoi. They only just closed up the hole on her chest, now they're doing the other holes on her body, yoi."Marco said

Ace leaned his head back on the wall, staring up at the sky.

'She hasn't left me yet, thank god. She'll live.'

"Oi, Ace."
Ace looked at Marco & Thatch, who were grinning at him.
"She can't leave yet anyway, you still need to tell her how ya feel about her."Thatch said
Ace blushed."W-well I-um....I'm getting to that!"
Marco laughed."You so are crazy for her, yoi."
Ace grumbled."Shut up.."

Soon, the doctors had finished operating on Itami, she's all fixed up, and was now lying in bed, resting.

That night, Ace crept over to the infirmary to visit Itami. He opened the door, and quietly shut it behind him.

"Itami..."Ace whispered, seeing her lying on the bed.

He slowly walked over to her bed, and sat down on the seat by her bed. She had heart beat meters hooked up to her body, a oxygen mask over her mouth & nose. He saw bandages wrapped around the places from where she was stabbed.

He looked at her heart meter, and saw that it was at a normal state.

'Thank god you're alive, Itami.'

He stayed by her side for 1 & a half days. He wanted to be the first to see her when she wakes up. He wanted to tell her the truth. To tell her who he really is. He wasn't sure, but he thought that Itami had heard that Marine captain call him 'Gol D Ace.'. He wasn't sure, but he knew that it was time that he told her.

She needed to know.

Itami pov
I slowly cracked my eyes open. Everything around me was bright, and white. At first I didn't know where I was, but after looking around some more, I knew that I was in the infirmary.

'Infirmary..? Does that mean that....I'm alive?'

By my bed, I saw Ace's sleeping figure, his head & arms on my bed.

'Thank god...he's alive. It means that I really did save him. As long as he lives, then it makes me happy.'

"He's been sitting here, waiting for you to wake up, yoi."

I look up & saw Marco leaning against the door frame, his arms crossed. He walked over to my bed, kneeling down to my level.

"H-he has?"I asked, my voice sounding throaty
Marco nods."You've been sleeping for almost 2 days, yoi."

I stared at Ace, who was still sleeping. I could only just faintly see that he had some bags under his eyes.

"You know....back there on the Marines ship, that captain called Ace, 'Gol D Ace'...."I said
Marco stiffined, but sighed."You heard right, yoi."
"So...he really is the son of Gol D Roger then?"I asked
"Yes."

I sighed, reaching out to pet his messy black hair.

"Then...he's gone through so much. No doubt people would say he's the son of a demon.....but I think otherwise. People need to realize that even if you have a criminal as a parent, you're your own person. Ace here is nothing like Roger. He's..his own person. It doesn't change the fact that he's Ace. Our Ace. The narcoleptic idiot who only wears pants & a orange cowboy hat."I said with a smile

I felt a hand grab my wrist, I look down & see that Ace was staring at me. He had tears in his eyes.

"Y-you really think that?"He whispered

"Yes...Ace-kun, you cannot listen to what those people say. They only think they know who you are, when really, they're all guessing. We know you better than everyone else. I know that you're very protective over your little brother, I know that you won't ever back down from a fight, I know that you dine & dash a lot..And now I know that your Father is the man that made all dreams possible."

He was staring at me, his tears slipping out faster. He let out a sob, then it turned into cries. I reached over, and petted his hair.

Third pov
Marco snuck out of the room, leaving Ace & Itami on their own.

'Its so damn obvious, yoi. They definitely love each other. I might leave the rest up to Ace now, its his call. All he has to do now, is to claim her heart, yoi. It can't be hard though, she'll easily accept..she loves him a lot.'

Marco smirked."I should do this 'wing-man' thing more often, yoi."
