Chapter 13 - The Truth Comes Out

"Well we're going to leave... Feel better, Ashton." Gibbs says as he walks towards the door. Tony, Ziva, McGee, Vance and Ducky follow.

"Mr. Palmer? Are you coming?" Ducky asks before stepping out the door.

"Uhh... Yeah. I'll meet you outside in a few minutes." Palmer says.

"Ah I understand." Ducky leaves and shuts the door behind him.

"Why did you lie for me?"

"Because you've been working for NCIS longer... If either of us keep our job it should be you." I say.

"That's so sweet, but you just got your job. I wouldn't want it taken from you." He kisses my cheek and stands up.

"Really?"

"Yes... Doctor Mallard is waiting for me. I better go." He kisses my forehead and leaves. I sit in silence for a few hours watching out the window. I think about what Gibbs might do. Fire me... Fire Jimmy and me... No. Stop. I can't think like this. Just stop.

"Hey, Ash." McGee says the next morning, waking me up.

"Hey, McGee." I say and sit up.

"Why'd you take the blame last night?"

"What do you mean?" I say playing it stupid.

"You know exactly what I mean. Why'd you do it?"

"I didn't want Jimmy to get in trouble. He's had his job way longer and I don't want to be the reason he looses it."

"That's pretty sacrificial for someone you've only known a week."

"Have you ever thought love at first sight was real, McGee?"

"All the time... So you're telling me you feel in love with him the first time you saw him, but when he kissed you, you ran away? Why?"

"Because... Well... It was the first time I ever kissed anyone. I didn't know what to do. I wanted to say something but I was in shock and couldn't speak."

"That was the first time you kissed anyone?"

"Yeah."

"And you didn't know what to say?"

"Nope."

"Wanna practice for next time?"

"Are you asking me to kiss you?"

"Not necessarily."
