December 5th - How I planned to say goodbye
I just want you to know that I'm starting over somewhere, and once I commit, I can't ever go back. I'll have almost everything I want except real love. But I'm not allowed to see you again. And I'll miss you but I think for both our sakes its best we forget each other. You're not the person I fell in love with anymore and the things that we've done will haunt me for life. But I'll still always love you and want the best for you. Worrying about my safety is not what you need. I hope you keep your present and that it serves you well. Maybe someday we'll meet again as strangers in a different city. Take care M, may God protect you and find you.
December 14
She points at a picture of a smiling young girl
And insists quite frantically "Look, this was me"
She's a burnout now, but she keeps boxes of memories
Desperate for her story to be believed

Things I have learned about parenting:
* Tell your daughter that she's beautiful but also remind her that everyone is beautiful
* Never tell your children that they are better than someone. Don't teach them superiority.
* Remind them that being nice is more important than being right or getting your way
* Teach them please and thank you
* Your kids will act differently with other children than they do with you. They will learn lessons you might have not wanted them to, from observing others. Make sure the environment they are regularly exposed to is the right one
* Don't let them be wasteful. Teach them to value what is given to them.
* Don't give them what they want just because they start crying
* Teach them to ask forgiveness
* When they do something wrong, explain to them why it's wrong. Then give them a chance to fix their mistake and do the right thing. Only if they continue to do the wrong thing do you punish them for it.
* Hold your child and pay attention to what they might be trying to say. They have to know that they can tell you anything.
* Don't always drop everything when they need attention. They must also learn to be independent.
* Don't let them watch TV. Do not expose them to advertisement, don't take them shopping. The marketing industry will try to convince them that they need to have the latest flashy thing to be happy and they will believe that if you don't buy them things, you don't love them.
* Teach them to be kind to animals
