She was just a little girl...
Fell in love with a broken boy.
All his shadows filled his hollow,
Torn up, endless void.
So naive and trembling with fear,
She stepped out of her circle of light
Into the darkness, the place of no tears
that used to be his heart.
"I promise to take care of you my dear"... He quietly whispered,
As his arms held her close to his chest
Where the cold endless emptiness lay
Then she looked into his eyes and
In them saw the world as he did:
All the brokenness and lies,
All the pain and blood and sins.
Shrinking back from his gaze
She preferred to hide her face
In the safety of his arms;
In the comfort of his embrace.
As she put her head on his chest
Though shaking with terror,
She still tried her best
Not to run away away.
"I'm a monster" he warned
As he felt himself falling again.
"Yes I've heard" screamed her thoughts
As slowly she let go of the hand,
That had guided her life,
The North star on her nights.
And slipped away into darkness
The huge deep endless black sea
Yet she still felt the touch
Of the strong guiding hand
She determinably vowed
Not to lose sight of the land
As she set sail with the ship
On a voyage that turned up her world
Like a raging storm
It would toss her to and fro
Sleepless nights soon would follow
Oh how many countless times she cried
Her eyes became empty hollows
Like rivers that had run themselves dry
Yet she clung to a shred of light
A small fickle thing known as hope
That dragged her away from the edge
Of the cliff at which she stood by
In the darkest of nights
In the deadest of days
That hope would shine bright
She would not let it fade
And at last, as she realized
The monster she feared
It never came out,
It never appeared
As they blinked in confusion
It then dawned on her.
He was wrong! All along
He wasn't a monster, he never was
All this time he never knew
That she saw inside him too
And she didn't see a monster
She saw another human child
Though lost and abandoned
So scared and alone
He was there in a corner
Searching for his home
The scared little boy
Had grown big and strong
But no matter how old
All a child ever needs
Was a place where he belongs.
