"Come on, Ellie, it'll be fun!"
"I'm not stealing Bruce's diary. I don't have a smash wish."
"Pleeaaase."
"I'm busy today."
"With what?"
"School work."
"You go to school?"
"Um, yeah. Where do you think I go five days a week?"
"I always thought you're quiet on weekdays."
Clint is sat on the end of my end of my bed, holding a quiver of arrows. He frowned. "When's school next?"
"Tomorrow."
"Oh...can I come?"
I think about it. It is boring lately...and it is Valentine's Day tomorrow..."sure. But don't tell Pepper. Or Tony. Or Bucky."
"Can I bring Nat?"
"Fine. But don't bring Tardis with you."
"Don't worry, Coulson is babysitting tomorrow."
"That's not going to go well."
"I know," Clint said, jumping up to his feet. "But Phil insisted. I owe him after Miami."
"Another classified mission?"
"Uh, no...I...well, we went on a date and I left halfway through because Nat was drunk and at a barbecue on the beach." Clint blushed. "See ya tomorrow."
***
Okay, so normally the ride to school sucks because I'm just thinking ugh school homework exams stress but today it's even worse because Clint - even though he's a super spy - can't keep his mouth shut.
Natasha is driving, at top speeds, of course, whilst Clint hacks into my high school files and gives them all jobs. Apparently Natasha is now my supply teacher for English, Steve is the 'guest of honour' teaching my Games lesson, Tony is just allowed to lurk around as a professional genius/celebrity/superhero and Bruce and Thor are part of Tony's 'entourage'.
Bucky, Clint and Loki, of course, have to be different and are pretending to be students.
"What do the cool teens of today say?" Bucky asks. "Hashtag. YOLO. Selfie?" He laughs.
"Bucks, I swear you use those words on a regular basis," I reply. "And please don't be weird."
"I'm not weird," Clint says from the back seat where he's doodling on Steve's arm. "Anyway, how come you never bring your friends round?"
"Um, because you guys are...not old but not exactly their kind of fun."
"Are you friends with any cheerleaders?" Tony asks and Steve slaps him round the back of the head. "Ow, what was that for?"
"Just because," Steve replies.
Bucky raises an eyebrow at me and I shrug.
They've both been really stressed at each other lately. And I keep thinking about the man in the park. I 'forgot' to tell them about it.
I start to feel guilty and am about to confess when we arrive in the school car park. "Avengers disassemble!" Clint yells and while he nearly wets himself, laughing, we all go our separate ways.
I'm about to go meet my friends at the usual place when I realise Steve is following me. "Ste-sorry Mr Rogers, what are you doing?"
"I'm lost."
I roll my eyes. "Where's Bucky gone?"
"He's mad at me."
"Why?"
"Apparently I'm a jerk."
"Why?"
"I told him that I was on a mission on our anniversary."
"Steve! Okay you have to make it up to him. I'm thinking Big Romantic Gesture. Doves, roses, chocolate and teddy bears and-"
Steve suddenly starts smiling and runs off. Weird strange smol child.
As soon as I walk up to my friends, I see Clint tripping over Bucky and Bucky falling head first into a vending machine. Oh dear God. "Barnes, you imbecile!"
"I can't believe you! You're so clumsy!"
"I'm so embarrassed! I- ELLIE!"
Crappy crap. For a father and superhero, Clint has for to be the biggest idiot I have ever met. "Hey, um," I turn to my friend, Gwen, and pull a face. "This is Clint."
"I'm Gwen, hi," she says. "Are you new?"
"I just transferred here from West Philadelphia, born and raised," Clint says them starts laughing,
I honesty hate him.
