"You know, Carol, when I think of them now, I think of an old fuddy duddy, but you really have changed my perception. You really are just delightful," Nik complimented, his arm wrapped around my waist as we chatted with Carol Lockwood. "Say, what color are your eyes?"

"They're blue."

"And a beautiful shade too," I commented.

"They are," Nik added.

"Look at what the cat dragged in," Damon walked up, interrupting our conversation.

"Damon," I growled and he glared at me before turning his attention over to Nik.

"Nice vest."

"Thank you very much. Good to see you, Damon. We were just discussing with Carol whether you'd be tonight's other big benefactor."

"What do you say, Damon? Klaus has made a very generous pledge. You know how we're chomping at the bit to begin the renovation," Carol stated, taking a sip of her drink.

"Hm. Carol, don't take this the wrong way, but do you realize that you've been kissing the ass of an immortal hybrid who ruined your son's life?"

"Oh, come now. Some might say he saved it. What with all that nasty full moon business," I responded.

"I never had to go through it myself more than twice, to be honest, but still, I'm very sympathetic," Nik reassured Mrs. Lockwood.

"Klaus has promised to protect Tyler, Damon, and our town."

"From who? His hybrids are the ones the town needs protection from," Damon told her, glaring at Nik.

"Well, he'd have no use for them if your brother would kindly return his family," I chimed in.

"Not gonna happen."

"That's what I thought, which is why I've come to an agreement with the Mayor. You and the council stay out of my hair, I'll stay out of yours. Your town gets protected, my hybrids get left alone and everybody will be happy. All you have to do is to get Stefan to stop decapitating my friends."

"Please, Damon. Just get your brother under control or the council will be forced to take action against him," Carol stated.

"You've got to be kidding me."

"Oh, come on, mate. Give peace a chance," I said, sending him a fake smile.

***

"What now? You just pulled us away from a fascinating conversation about landscaping the town square," I said, plopping down on the couch as Nik stood by the fireplace.

"Stefan just grabbed Elena," Damon stated, shutting the doors.

"He's getting desperate."

"He's going to try to use her against you. Do what he says. Get rid of your hybrids."

"Or what? Stefan would never dream of killing her," I commented.

"Are you sure about that? He just tried to behead someone in the middle of a council party. He's operating on crazy right now."

"Well, crazy or not, that kind of love never dies. He's bluffing."

"Maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but if you don't want to believe him, believe me. I know my brother better than anyone and right now I don't have a clue how far he's willing to take this. So, if he says blink, I suggest you blink."

***

"Nik, maybe we should listen to him," I said quietly, as we wandered outside to the backyard.

"No. He won't hurt her."

"But what if he does? You won't be able to make any more hybrids. He'll kill the rest of them off and then -," I was cut off by his phone ringing.

"Stefan, how nice to hear your voice."

"Tell your hybrids to get out of town, Klaus," Stefan said from the other end.

"Well, that's not going to happen until I get my coffins back."

"Okay, well, then I'm going to drive your blood source off Wickery Bridge."

"I don't believe you, Stefan. You won't kill her." There was coughing in the background, followed by Elena's voice.

"What's going on?"

"I just fed her my blood. No more hybrids if she's a vampire."

"Nik," I whispered, eyes widening.

"You won't do it," he told Stefan, ignoring me.

"Really? Try me because your coffins are next to go. Say goodbye to your family, Klaus." Elena yelled for Stefan to slow the car down as the tires screeched.

"Niklaus! You cannot just let him kill her!" I exclaimed quietly, trying not to attract the attention of the other people around us.

"Fine! I'll send them away. You win. Stop the car, Stefan!" The tires squealed and Nik hung up the phone.

"Is she?"

He shook his head, "She's fine." I breathed a sigh of relief, closing my eyes and resting my forehead against his shoulder. "Come on," he muttered, wrapping an arm around me and leading me back inside. We got to the front door of the house and were making our way out to the car, when Nik's phone rang again. "Tyler." I listened in on what he was saying, hearing how upset he sounded.

"What?" I exclaimed, stopping in my tracks and staring at Nik.

"What?" He asked, stopping too and hanging up the phone.

"Tyler bit Caroline? Why?"

"I told Tyler to bite her."

"You have got to be joking! Why would you do that?"

"To get back at Stefan for decapitating Mindy," he shrugged.

"She's my friend, Nik! I've been around a long time, I've lost a lot of friends and I'm not about to lose another. So, whether you like it or not, we are going over there and you are giving her some of your blood," I stated, angry. He stopped and stared at me before speeding inside. When he came back out, he had a glass in his hand. He dumped the contents of it out before biting into his hand, letting the blood drip into it. When there was enough, he held the glass out to me.

"Here. Take it." I slowly grabbed the glass, shocked that he had actually listened.

"Thank you, Nik." He placed a soft kiss on my forehead before I took off, quickly making my way over to Caroline's house.

Hope you enjoyed.
