The Dauntless guards have vacated the fence - due to the simulation, most likely - making it much easier to get through.
We run through the woods on the other side of the fence and eventually spot Amity at the bottom of the hill.
"There it is." Caleb states the obvious.
We run down the hill and towards the farmlike structure that is Amity.
There is a fence around it, and it is unlocked.
Sometimes the Amity take kindness to the stupidity level. They have to be aware of Erudites recent fallout.
And once we get inside, that theory is confirmed.
There are people from every single Faction - save perhaps Erudite - milling around aimlessly. Some make eye contact with us, but most keep to themselves or to the people they are walking with.
"Well, we're here. What now?" Peter asks everyone is thinking.
Before I can respond, my father walks in front of me and leads the way to one of the buildings that must house Johanna Reyes, the leader of this Faction.
He simply walks up to the door and knocks.
In literally 2.2 seconds it opens and Johanna is standing there gaping at him with relief in her eyes.
She looks like she wants to hug him, but settles for a subtle handshake. That is how the Abnegation greet each other.
"Thank goodness you're here. I thought you were dead along with so many other Abnegation." She gives him a radiant smile. Even with the scar covering her left side, she's very beautiful.
And she seems to have a thing for my father.
"Who are your friends?" she asks him.
He gestures to us "This is Beatrice, Caleb - her brother -, Peter, and Tob-"
"Four." I cut him off. Not everyone needs to know name.
Marcus side eyes me but I ignore him.
Tris takes over the conversation.
"We need somewhere to stay. Dauntless is being too closely monitored and we're fugitives."
"Amity is here to provide shelter for those in need of it. But we can so far only let you stay for the night. Some time tomorrow Amity will decide whether to keep you or not. Until then, you must work some sort of job, and most importantly, No weapons." Johanna gave a wary eye to the gun tucked at my waist.
I quickly take it out and hand it over to her. Peter hands her his also.
But when Tris moves to take hers out, I pull her shirt back down and take her hand to cover it up. Before anyone can register what I just did, I whisper "Who knows when we'll need it."
Johanna looks more relaxed with the guns put away. "My guards will show you to your rooms. Welcome to Amity."
