"I could probably do it with my right arm, but yes, Four is a Dauntless prodigy." Tris says, coming into my room. I meet her eyes, noticing the hidden meaning behind the emphasis on Four. "And can you tell me exactly why you're throwing knives at cheese?"
"Caleb wanted to talk to me about something." I lean my head against the wall in closest to. "And knife throwing just somehow came up."
"As it so often does." Tris says sarcastically, shooting me one of the most radiant smile I've seen displayed on her face in a very long time. I cannot take my eyes off of her at this moment and doubt that I'll be able to ever again. She's beautiful no matter what she does, but when she smiles, all of the beauty just shines through.
It's clear that Caleb is the third wheel here, so he clears his throat after a minute or two. "It's about time for me to get back to my room now. I'm reading this really cool book on the water-fliteration systems-" He goes on and on, most likely to prolong the time that Tris and I aren't alone. "The kid I asked for it from looked at me like I was crazy for wanting to read it. It's sort of an instruction manuel and it's actually pretty fascinating." He stops when he catches sight of our confused faces. "Sorry. You guys probably think I'm crazy too."
"No I don't think you are. Maybe you should try reading it sometime Tris, it seems like something you'd be interested in." I can hardly contain my laughter.
"I can loan it to you if you want." Caleb says.
"Maybe later." Tris says when mock nervousness.
"Alright, just tell me when you need it." Then Caleb smiles and leaves the room.
The second the door is closed, I laugh out loud.
Tris shoots me a glare. "Thanks a lot. Now he's gonna be talking my ear off about that stuff for who knows how long, but I guess I'd prefer that to what he wants to talk to me about."
"Oh yeah? And what is that? Aquaponics?"
"Aqua-what?!"
"It's one of the ways they grow for here. You don't want to know."
"Youre right, I don't." She smirks and displays a curious expression. "What'd he come to talk to you about?"
"Oh you know, the big-brother, you-better-not-mess-around-with-my-sister talk." I roll my eyes.
"And what'd you tell him?"
I start walking towards her.
"I told him how we got together, which is how knife-throwing came up," I stop walking when there are only a few inches between us, "and that I wasn't messing around." I wrap my arms around her waist and gently push her up against the door. I forget Caleb, the cheese and all other irrelevant thoughts as my lips meet hers with a fiery passion. As my lips meet with hers, she pulls me closer and slips her hand under the back of my shirt.
Passionate emotions course through me and I crash my lips against hers with even more desire than before.
We stay like that for a few more minutes before my curiosity gets the best of me.
"This isn't what you came here for, is it?" I ask her against her warm cheek.
"No."
"Then what did you come here for?"
"It doesn't matter." She says pulling me back into our intimate moment.
But after a few ore seconds I can't take it anymore. I have to know the real reason why she came. "Tris..." I mumble.
"Okay, okay." She says, detaching from me and moving to sit on my bed. "I was in my room and I saw Johanna and Marcus go into the Orchard so I decided to follow them for no reason at all. Turns out, Johanna wanted to know if the timing of the attack on Abnegation meant anything. Marcus said they it was actually over crucial information that was worth dying for, and that that was what Jeanine was after. But when Johanna started asking about what the information was, Marcus got mad and didn't tell her anything." My eyebrows had drawn together during the time Tris was talking, now I imagined it to look like I had some sort of a uni-brow. This was typical behavior of my father. I just hated that Johanna had to be the one he would show it to.
"So what do you think?" She asks.
"I think he's trying to feel important. This is normal for him. Marcus is most likely just bluffing." I told her, contempt evident in my voice.
"So you think what he told her is complete nonsense?"
"I think that if there is some information, it's not as important as Marcus is making it out to be. He just wants Johanna to feel like he has something of value that she doesn't."
Tris looks conflicted. "I don't... I don't think you're right. He didn't sound like he was lying."
"He's an excellent liar." I say quickly. I can hardly believe that Tris is simply going along with what he said without questioning it at all.
"But I don't understand why he would lie about this."
"You don't know him like I do. He does this daily. He has much practice in this field." My frown begins to depend.
"Well what if you're right? What are we going to do?"
"I think we need to focus on things that concern us. You know, go back to the city, find out what's going on. Like that."
"Alright. I agree."
And just like that, the subject is dropped.
